what is the difference between 20-221 and 20 Vartarg?

Does 20 Vartarg have less case taper? Differnet shoulder angle? I haven't been able to find a case dimension drawing. Seems like 20-221 would be better if you have to fireform 20 Vartarg.

Very small differences. You'll have to ask Todd for a print. He's got a 30-deg shoulder and slightly less taper. No special dies are need to form 20 VarTarg brass. Simply run a .221 Fireball case through a 20 VarTarg full-length sizer die--then load, and shoot. There is virtually no difference performance-wise between virgin brass and fire-formed 20 VarTarg brass, so you don't need two different loads. Right now Remington is the only source of parent .221 Fireball brass. Most 20 VarTarg shooters are satisfied with the quality, and price), so long as the Rem brass is weight-sorted and prepped before loading.

Here's one comment on a varmint board: "Iffin it were me, and I had the money to do it, I'd go with a straight .20/.221 Fireball. Kindler's a good salesman, but I'm not impressed with his tweaking shoulders to 30degrees and calling it "magic". Nothing magical about it. I know he does it to be different, and to get his name on it, but it's just fooferaw. A simple neckdown will do the same thing. I would, of course, go 1-11" twist, or so, just so I could use the heavy bullets without headaches"

and a response:

"the 30 degree shoulder angle is not cosmetic or magic reason. It is a good way to improve case life by limiting case stretch and trimming brass all the time. I to like to shoot but, hate trimming brass."

Personally, I'd do the Vartarg, so long as the chamber is cut with a good reamer. You won't have any problems getting dies.
