What is out there for a 1.250 bull barrel

I just purchased a Remington 700 in a 308 caliber. The barrel diameter at the muzzle is around 1.150. It looks like the diameter at the receiver is right around 1.250. Can't really get a good measurment until I remove the stock. Right now it has a Choate stock on it. It's called "the ultimate varmint". I think the stock is ugly, and at the range yesterday it would not fit in my bags good whatsoever. I plan on calling a couple stock manufacturers today and see what they have. I'm looking at either a Boyd's or the Bell and Carlson.
Just wondering if you guys out there would have any ideas for me as to what to buy, or maybe you might have one to market.
I plan on listing a "wanted" add on it sometime today.
Not wanting to drop like 800 bucks into a stock either. The action has been tuned, and I just dropped a Timney trigger into it, but haven't as of yet worked up any loads. At the range yesterday it shot 5 shot groups of one inch and .625. So I know it will shoot, but again, my set up at the bench was poor. I really think that a different shape stock would benefit me more than this radical design of a stock.
Your imput would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks...Gene

On some occasions when I want a 'drop-in' stock I peruse Stocky's Stocks:

https://www.stockysstocks.com/

Some of the magnum or Varmint barrel channels can be opened up to fit your barrel contour. And some models come with aluminum action blocks.

There are other manufacturers but a search for these will be more helpful since you have a price level.

If a barrel channel in these descriptions doesn't sound like it is an exact drop in (and probably won't be...) it takes a little elbow grease, sandpaper or a mill to open it up to fit.

Enjoy!

:)

Check with Urban Rifleman. Pretty sure the stock he sells fits a 1.250" barrel as is.

The channel itself is 1.250", mine needed a bit of sanding to allow a 1.250 straight barrel to free float.

Another area where some stocks are not always drop-in ready is if you have a Jewel trigger with safety. They need a bit more room than most.

I don't believe Boyds or B & C will open up a barrel channel from their standard production stocks. That's what they both told me about six months ago.

Stocky Stocks should work. They are not light, Give them a call. They are very helpful Tommy Mc

Look at hunting forums and eBay for McMillan varmint/M40/HTG. Deals are to be found and I personally think they are the best value out there.

I'd check out Oryx aluminum chasis stock for $400 is drop in for Remington 700 short action. It will use detachable mags, and free float the barrel and the action bedding is basically done with the aluminum chasis...best bet for accuracy without doing any gunsmithing of bedding the action.
If it won't shoot with this stock the gun needs a new barrel, and action truing ....I build rifles, but I don't "tune" any actions, but machine them true with full lug engagement on the bolt lugs to reciever, recut threads, reciever face, etc. sometimes sleeve the bolts recut raceway or thread for a new knob...this sometime called truing the action. You should also borescope the barrel to check its condition and its chamber and muzzle crown. A 308 and most normal cartridges will shoot small groups when set up correctly with the intended purpose in mind, a premium barrel with the correct twist rate for the bullets you intend to use, close range, long range, varmint, etc. Know the twist and select bullets accordingly and vary the seating depth to find the accuracy, with a common powder and bullet with a reputation of working for that caliber is a good place to start...if ya handload, and everyone does...right? Well, if ya don't try some of the premium factory loads...and the reject Military FMJ is for plinking, mostly...but the LC cases can shoot good groups with some cheap commercial bullets...Like the 130 Speer Varmint, shoots well in a variety of 308s even with reject primed LC brass. These 130 Speers have been factory loaded too...check out a box & see how it shoots... in your new Oryx alum chasis or whatever you decide...

I got this from stocky stocks. Its there own with an aluminum bedding block. The barrel channel has a removable insert for large barrels. I think a good stock for $300. Several colors/designs to choose from.

This looks awsome..I would like to find a blind bottom since I am feeding this as a single shot

If you want it to be single shot you can just add a single shot follower. Did this to my 6br.
Yes, this is what I have allready done. It's hard to find a blind bottom, or an ADL stock. Expecially one that will accept a 1.250 pipe. I just purchased a new Boyds Pro Varmint stock. This is what they suggested. There is also a HS precision stock that will probably work. But its much more money.
The Choate stock that is on it now, fits very nicely. But the back of the stock is so high that I cant put my shooting bag under it, and have enough travel in my front rest to accomidate it. I'll try to post a picture of it sometime today.

Look at the Bell & Carlson Remington Target/Varmint stock with adj cheek piece. $430.00 alum bedding block. For a Short 700 they also have it inletted for M5 bottom metal. Good stock for the money
