What is fill material on the big name stocks, MCM, Manners

Hello

I've been making a stock here and there for some of my rifles. I like the process. I'm using carbon for the outer shell. Using the molding process, and vacuum bagging technique.

Anyway, it's the fill that I can't quite figure out. I've tired a bunch of different stuff, but currently I either use chopped carbon, or thickened west systems epoxy with filler for a peanut butter type fill.

These both work great, but my stock weight is pretty high. I just bought a flat top A5, and also saw something on youtube on McMillan, The fill looks like hardened clay almost, in the video there were packing the stuff if by hand.

Anyway, was wondering if anyone can point me in a material direction. I'll never become any kind of commercial stock maker, just looking to make better stocks for myself. Really looking for a good lightweight fill that can be machined. no foams

Take alook at: www.fiberglast.com they have different density structural foams which are 2 part and react quickly and harden like rock and can be machined easily.

I'll check them out

Smooth - on has a tooling epoxy puddy too. I may give that a go

On molds. You can make nice and cheap one off molds from plaster paris. One off because they last the vacuum but not the extraction

Done a few male molds too. Place cf over the mold. And either cut off or strategically remove. I'll post a couple pics

Boy, while I'm at it, I'm doing 2 piece stocks. I have to join two pieces up. But it video. It looks like they lay both halves up at same time and get one piece out of it. Any fiberglass stock makers out there. Love to take about the process a bit.
One last one of my f classer. It was an in process pic.

AKShooter,

I am not sure if they would work for your application, but I used to use microballoons for Radio Control airplane application, where weight and strength were primary concerns. These are available from several vendors such as Tower Hobbies and Amazon (both offer TopFlite brand).
