What is a .308 Norma Magnum based on?

I remember the .308 and .358 Norma. What case is the .308 Norma Magnum based on? Larger than the .300 Winchester?

Not really but very close case cap . Uses the same parent case but was better design ( my opinion ) longer neck , same PRACTICAL velocity .
It was first a wildcat then stdized . It was a long rage contender in the early 70s . I still have a few . Be careful if buying an old rifle . Many different chambers before Norma made it a standardized case .
It fed better out of the Springfields and Mausers of the time .

My uncle shot a 308 Norma Mag. Was thinking a 338 Win Mag case necked down 30 caliber made the Norma case, but could be a bit short in length?

The 308 and 358 Norma Mags are a hair longer in length than the 338 win mag, but a little shorter than 300 win mag. All were designed from the 300 H&H magnum case

I shot a 358 Norma Mag for a handful if years. Was actually the very first custom rifle I ever built. Very powerful round. Pushing 225gr Nosler Partitions at 3030 fps from a 26" barrel.

Although a little smaller, the 308 Norma mag is close in performance to the 300 win mag

As what Ledd Slinger said a very powerful round for sure, my uncle lived in Oregon, down the street from Nosler but he preferred 180 gr Sierra BTSP for his elk load. That must have worked for him very well. Since he passed away I aquired 10 to 15 full boxes of the Sierra bullets, and a small crown royal bag full of elk teeth.

308 norma is about the same size as the 338 win, 7mm Rem Mag, and 264 win. They are all based off of the 375 H & H shortened to 2.5 ish.
