What front bag for a sporter rifle?

The most stable set up is to use a Harts Accuracy Asset (R.W. Hart Co.- also a similar unit is offered by Sinclair Fore end Benchrest Adapter) which requires a +3" wide front bag. Next would be a replacement rest top that has adjustable metal sides which exert inward pressure on the bag ears. If cost is a big factor a quality bag like Protektor Model Co. will be a night and day difference as compared to that Chinese bag. Go to their website and you can see there is more "U" shape to their bags. Call them, they are made in mountain country in PA and have been making shooting bags for a long time. Tell them what rest top and type of rifles it will be used for and they'll know what will work the best.

I use a Bud's Bulls Bag filled with sand. I sits on piece of 3/4" plywood with three 1/2" bolts/nuts for legs. Solid as a rock and when the rifle is nestled down in the suede top it does not move. Works with narrow featherweight stocks or heavier varmint styles. Mine gets "borrowed" frequently. Once shooting buddies saw the accuracy sporter rifles are capable of when properly supported it's been gone a lot.

Old thread, but I'll add a thought that may help someone out. I watched Allie Euber shoot a 2-gun Score match- i.e. VFS ( 3" fore-end) and Hunter Class (2-1/4") by simply rotating his rest a few degrees so the 3" bag ears guided the Hunter gun. I tried this at a match, and had other problems that day so I can't say it is detrimental to accuracy. Don't recall how Allie did that day either. But it is an option to consider.
