What do i clean an AR barrel with

I have a chrome lined AR-15...whats the best cleaner to use on this barrel...ive heard rumor to Not use a cleaner with ammonia...is this true?

not true at all. I use Sweet's and KG products.

I use sweets 7.62, till clean and dry, then a light oil with Break-Free CLP.

awesome..thnx so much for the info...cant remember where i heard about the non-ammonia rumor but i was just wanting to comfirm yaa or nah on that before i cleaned this new gun for the first time

I prefer Barnes CR-10 to Sweet's 7.62, but have both.

Saw an AGi video of Darrel Holland varmint loading & shooting and he used the Barnes liberally on a bronze brush, that really gets the crud and copper deposits out.

Hoppes or Shooters Choice is a good general solvent, I like Hoppes smell so... Also like Walmart spray carburetor cleaner. Spray it into an eyedropper bottle and a few drops on a patch will clean mucho carbon foulling.

With an Armalite pattern rifle, lube is important I use Mobil 1 synthetic grease on recoil spring and bolt lugs, also got some Phil's Tenacious Oil for bike chain & sprockets per Robert Whitley's recommendation on his site. That stuff does cling. Also use 5/40 synthetic as run it in my diesels. Synthetic aircraft oil is excellent too. Lots of online formulas to make your own stuff.

Just be sure whatever you use for copper cleaning that you neutralize or patch it all out within time limit shown on bottle. Carb cleaner soaking a patch works fine in that regard, Oil with Hoppes after barrel is clean of foulilng.
