What caused this?

This is a 6ppc case from Lapua 220 Russian brass. It has been fired 5 times, annealed 6 times. If you blow the pics up it shows better. There is a line up one side, curving near the shoulder and then going back down the other side part way. I never noticed this before which confuses me since I handle my brass in process a lot. It looks like there was a piece of wire in the chamber and then the case was fired over or, obviously not the case. No other cases have this mark. If you straightened it out it would be 2 inch long. I think it was there from new, I just never noticed it. Anyone ever seen this?20250806_103658.jpg20250806_103310.jpg If you run you finer or nail over it you feel nothing.

I had a similar issue with some Starline 308win brass, it's 1 of 2 things IMO, over pressure or something in the mix of the brass, there is a thread posted here of the guys explaining what they saw from my pix, I had very similar marks in my brass like you have, even though I was loading my charge weights with in spec they were at the top end but not max, I was advised not to reload the cases that had these marks in them YMMV.

Patch thread left in the chamber?

I have a 6 PPC case that has a indentation on the shoulder I am almost certain was due to a bronze brush bristle. Bolt closed harder than normal and I shot it as a sighter. Didn’t notice it until I was cleaning the necks at home.

Could be from the deep draw process. I've seen steel cups do
this. There is a displacement of material that gets smoothed
out during the next several draws. Do the ol' paper clip trick
to see if you can feel a ridge on the inside.

I will also say I reduced my charge weights and didn't see anymore issues,
The right case definitely looks to be incipient case head separation.
The paper clip sharpened and small 90* turn put down in the case to see if it catches in a crevice indicating a separation forming.
Also looks like you need to clean the neck area of your die as both cased show scratching on the neck area.

My first thought is maybe a string from a patch.

Then my mind gets me and i think cat hair !
I get cat hair in my funnel when loading some time, seems to be ok. Lol
I had that thought but staigtened out it would be much too long.

Good idea Fun, I thought about that but did not do it. I will do it.

Your responding on the wrong thread. Go to his initial thread please.

If it's clean bore scope it and see if you see anything inside, I do this with my 220 Swift brass to verify no case separation ring starting or those that do I toss em, works like a charm as it's very obvious if there is one even in a dirty case, just not slapping you in the face obvious. Otherwise clean it and do same. As mentioned above could cross section it. Personally I'd probably ask the manufacturer as they likely know possible causes not to mention they can check to see if it's simply cosmetic or structural.
I think your also responding to the wrong thread, go to the proper thread.

Keep your thread to your thread. Don't jump into mine!

Not sure how that could be or even exactly what you're referring to, you started this thread "What caused this?" and that's what I responded to. I was simply suggesting you might look inside and see if there's any marks, doubtful but just takes a second to look. Regardless if you're not interested in suggestions. OK, I'll delete it.

I've had one very similar to that although a bit further up towards the shoulder. I just chalked it up to a defect. It was Lapua Brass, but I don't recall the caliber.
