It isn't handy to me at present. The dome on the base was unique to me.Looks close to a 50-100, but diameter seems .577 caliber.
What's the neck measure and case length.
Copper cased it seems, may be internal primed, but I don't see 2 crimps on head of case like other internal primed cartridges.Doesn't appear to have a primer pocket, so primer compound at base. And swelling from chemical reactions?
My first thought was, pressure???? But then I realize it hasn't been fired...those are some pretty grungy looking loads...It isn't handy to me at present. The dome on the base was unique to me.
At home Red had a very large shop with very nice and newer mills, lathes, surface grinder, stock profilers, and much tooling. I bought a truckload of walnut stockblanks that were in the loft of his barn that were slabbed in 1956. The largest cartridges were 20mm. He had quite a bit of 50bmg loaded and brass. Some of you know, Red formed and loaded 17HMR many years before it was introduced. I have a few. I sold a case of 22mag RF primed brass that he used to a member here I think. From civil war battery gun cartridges to inboard boat motors. Red must have been the kind of guy to have gotten around!!! Sounds like his shop or barn or what ever could be a museum.
