What Caliber to Get

Im looking for a cheap rifle with sub 3/4 moa accuracy to experiment with some things reloading. I want something cheap to shoot, and preferably something that would make a good varmint gun that I can push out to 600-800yds. Im also looking for a stock similar to the KRG bravo or MDT field stock. I considered a 224 valk in a CZ 600 alpha and replacing the stock, but that leaves me with buying a Boyds and by the time I buy the gun and stock im looking at about $1,000. I really wanted to buy the Howa 1500 mini barreled action in a 6 arc and run a 55-70g bullet. Problem being the gun has a 1:7.5 twist and Im worried about spinning bullets apart as I would be pushing 320,000 rpms. I could use a heavier bullet or slow my load down to about 3000 fps and be right at 300,000rpms but at that point I dont see much reason as I already have a 6 creed. Ive also pondered buying an aero solus action and finding a decent barrel with a slower twist to allow for a lighter bullet, but again were getting to a point of spending more than I want to for this particular gun. Ive also considered the ruger american gen 2 in 6 arc but still running into the problem of having too fast a twist rate. Just looking for some opinions to help me figure out which direction to go. Id prefer to stay right around $800 for the rifle and stock (if need be). Im open to any suggestions even if its a change in caliber options.

How about a 22 ARC? Small case volume and small bullet saves money spent on components. ;)

Ive considered it, just not sure what rifle to look for. The only one i know of in my price range would be the ruger american.

So the 6mm is out as you asked about caliber to pick, is that right ? The 223 caliber with 75-85 gr. weights will do the trick, as would 25 or 6.5 calibers.

I would love a 6 arc if I could find an option in my price range that would let me shoot 55g

55-70g

What about a Howa barreled action in 6.5 Grendel with a KRG bravo or MDT oryx chassis? That would be pretty plug n play. Drop in the chassis and shoot.

Also, Howa is dropping a Howa Mini in 22 ARC at the end of January from what I just read here.

I think that Howa in a 22 Arc would be nice! I didn’t know they had plans of dropping one.

Me either, until I was that a couple days ago. I'll probably end up picking one up just to play with. I have a metric ton on 6.5 Grendel brass. Plus Brownells always runs 10% off sales so you could probably pick on one real cheap.

Well you have a 6mm caliber with the 6mm Creedmoor, so to answer your question on what caliber to also get, Go with a 224 caliber.
And put it into something like a cartridge in 22 arc or 22 Creedmoor. Faster twist bore and enjoy either, for what you want, as to another caliber.
