What Bore Guide Size?

Just had a couple questions about bore guides, Being new to shooting I wanted to get off to the right start and was told to get a bore guide,Well I have a couple rifles one is a DPMS LR-308 AP4-16 inch barrel, When I called to get the bore guide the guy said to measure the bolt on the gun, to get a accurate fit,Well the bolt has 8 reliefs cut in the end,or Lugs, Is this what I need to measure, I measured the lugs and they came out to .990 ? Is this the measurement he would be looking for ?any information is helpful, thanks

Not familiar with your DPMS rig, but in bolt-actions the actual diameter of the bolt,not the lugs) is what is used.

Thanks Reed for the information,I didnt feel that the Lug diameter was correct but, I dont know what else you would measure since the bolt and carrier are all together .and that fits right up against the cartridge,

I assume that you're talkin Ar-10?
There are several companies making guides for the AR's.Sinclair carries them for both the AR 15 and the '10'.Just get one for the .308.Mine is a Dewey but it's for a .243.Just tell 'em ya want a guide for an AR-10 chambered in .308.If they don't know what ya want...go somewhere else.

Yeah, what Steve said. The bore guide has to fit BOTH the chamber and the receiver, if the folks on the other end of the line don't know, call someone who does.

Thanks for all the help I went ahead and called a couple of the places you guys had talked about and it wasn,t a problem, The bore guide,s are on the way
