I was out squirrel hunting a few days ago. It seems like since deer gun season ended recently, the squirrels are nowhere to be found. I was out in the woods for several hours. Didn't see a thing. I was a little discouraged, but still enjoying being outside in the quiet woods.
I had been using the squirrel caller with no luck. I carry a belt style pack for odds/ends, and I keep my cell phone in there. I knew I had a txt message waiting for me, but I didn't want to check it for fear of seeing a squirrel.
Well after all this time with seeing nothing, I open the pack and get out my cell phone. I've got the cell in one hand, the case in the other hand...rifle slung over my shoulder. I hear leaves rustling to my right...I look over and there's two big fox squirrels running on the ground...RIGHT TOWARDS ME! They must have been coming to the sound of the caller I was using earlier. They're only 30 feet away!! They stop dead in their tracks, look at me (with phone, case, gun slug over shoulder)...snort at me, and turn around a start running away. But by the time I get the cell back in the case, in the bag, and unsling the gun, they've scampered away. I think I know what tree they're in, and I stalk it for the next 15 minutes.....nothing. CRAP!
