What 9mm Optics-Ready Pistol for Steel Games?

Polymer. I like a M&P with an Apex trigger and a “gunsmith” fit Apex barrel.
Steel frame. Depending on rules . My favorite 2 pistols currently are a DS9-TC and a DS9-LOC
All shoot small in the ransom rest.

I usually run a 1911 race gun that I built up.
Six port comp and bull barrel requires a hot loaded 115 Gr. running a C-more 8 MOA dot.
I recently got the itch to try something completly different.
Walther steel frame PDP 5 inch.
Parker Mountain comp barrel with a ZR tactical long stroke 15LB spring.
I mounted a Vortex XL 8 MOA dot.
I'm waiting on the Springco trigger spring kit which is supposed to drop the
pull by 1.5 Lbs.
Im not sorry at all I bought the Walther but Canik makes great guns for less $.
Check them out.

I forgot to address the why part of your question.
The 1911 shoots very flat.
That is the hot loads makes a lot of gas and the six port comp does its thing and there is very little muzzle flip. Recoil comes close to straight back.
C-more is frame mounted and has a big windowwhice and big dot I like.
A good trigger is a must!
Most misses are low left due to mashing the trigger.

Thanks @Deputy819

There are so many choices these days. I'm old school and shoot an "open division" pistol. The steel shooting sport allows pistol caliber carbines these days. If you like handling a carbine .... The sport also allows rimfire pistol and rifle if you want to consider that.

A friend let me shoot his Walther ??? with a dot sight and it was really nice shooting. When the slide comes back after firing it is able to move back further before the slide hits the frame. This allows it to shoot flatter and gets the dot back on target quicker.

I've always liked the M&P 1.0, S&W PC guns, STI's and Glocks, lately my favorite has been the 320. But...with all the 320 issues, and some ranges have banned them, I'd probably stay away from that one for now. I ordered an M&P 2.0 Competitor for a customer that came in yesterday, this one is the PC version with the metal frame, and I fell in love with it. To the point that I have one backordered for me. Never shot it but I love the way it feels and handles. The 2.0 wasn't around when I started Speed Shooter Specialties several years ago and after I sold the business I didn't keep up with the M&P stuff so I don't know what changed from one to the other but I'm about to find out LOL

Anything on a 1911 frame. i prefer the flat mainspring housing, and
some will prefer the arched. All about the grip and point......
