What 7mm wildcat?

Looking to build a 7mm... want to shoot 189 Cauterucio bullets 3000 fps.
Prolly gonna need more than a 7mmRM. Want to stay this side of a STw as I can't afford to feed it that many barrels a year...

Suggestions? I was eyeballing a .284 Jarrett...

7 x 375 Ruger maybe just shortened a bit (no belts to mess with) . But only 1 source of brass, or the short 7.21 Lazzerroni

Try the wildcat 7mm-300 Win Mag. You will need to have your own 7mm RemMag reamer (either used or new) altered with the belt relocated .12". It's a simple $20 operation. Then you can use regular 7mm Rem dies with that same .12" gap between die base and shell holder. The case holds about 91 to 94 grains of water (depending on the make) vs 82 grains for the 7 Rem Mag, it really outperforms it while getting close to the STW's heels and brass is plentiful.

Just did a quick simulation. You should reach your goal with about 70 grains of N560 or MRP and a couple other powders with molycoated bullets.

I don't think the 280AI will quite make it to 3000fps. But a 7mm GIBBS may do it. Then there is the 7mm Dakota, if it wasn't for the expensive brass i would have one of these!!!

I've got a 32" 7wsm. Just did some load work up with it a couple weeks ago with the 180 bergers. I didn't chrony them but will here this coming weekend when i get home from work. Shouldn't be any problem getting 3000 with them.

Thanks guys.

I'm actually going with a 7mm-300WM. I was given a 7WSM die that had a bad burr on the body section- there's my neck down die, no cost. I can use my 300WM loading dies (with smaller neck bushings) and I have good 300WM brass. Reamer rental can be had for $15. SO it's the frugal change over from 300WM to a hot 7mm...

I wanted a caliber long neck (.284 Jarrett, etc.) but it would have cost at least $300 more... I can get a dang fine run-out gauge for half that or less!

Will report back after load & chrono work is done...

TresMon, if you go the 7-300WM way, you cannot simply rent a 7mmRM reamer and use it as is, you will need to have the parts of the flutes that ream the belt relocated or you'll end up with a chamber with a very deep belt recess (.12" deeper actually). The alteration is quite cheap and worth the cost. The alternative is a 7 RM reamer that you use to ream a regular chamber with a belt, followed by a 7mm STW reamer that you short chamber .23" in order to match the .300WM case length. The gauge should be a brand new .300WM neck sized with your WSM die.
Both wildcats would work as intended and be so similar in dimensions that you would have to measure them to tell them apart.

I have been shooting a 7mm/300WM for seveal years. It is very easy to get dies working without the need for custom. I use a 300WM Body die, a 7mm RM FL, and a 7mm RM neck for any of my needs. I use it for hunting, but would chamber it in a match barrel in a New York minute if I had a mag bolt face for my model B. Forgreens made my reamer many years ago with live pilot. It is a very satisfying round for hunting purposes. I got Dwight Scott to chamber up a #5 Krieger and had him flute it. He did a beautiful job truing my Remington 700 action with Spradlins rebluing the action and re-jewelling the bolt body. I put it in a Mcmillan Classic stock. I shoot 140 Accubonds with 72 grains of N560. Sub 1/2 Moa 100 yd groups @3350 fps. Fabulous round in my book.

I rented a reamer once, NEVER AGAIN, do your self a favor and call Dave Kiff at PT&G and have him make you a reamer that will do what you want it to do, tight chamber the right neck diameter and throated for the bullet you want!!!
Odds are about 10-1 that that rental reamer will be a loose chamber, with who knows what neck diameter, and it will NOT be throated for those 189 Cauterucio bullets, so good luck getting it to shoot right.
Dave

Right on, DirtBall! I do not rent reamers, never did, never will. It's already hard enough to obtain what you want when you buy them.
