What 700 do I have?

I bought a used Rem 700 to rebarrel...When we pulled the factory barrel off it had the shoulder set back a lot...Section with no threads...The barrel(7-08 18" +-) shank measures 1.047x0.86...Barrel I bought here for replacment(toast) measures 1.057x0.695...Set back is not for thick lug as the factory one is 0.162....Serial no. and cal put it in 1980 mfg...Barrel marking is a triangle with letter J in it and a rectangle with letters REP ... Serial number has no letters 6820xxx..Bolt has two lugs..
Receiver is marked REMINGTON 700..Thanks for looking..LT

The Serial Number is not the best way to date a "factory" rifle, use the barrel date code system here.

Also in this link you'll see that the markings are the factory proof marks from Remington, it's the other side of the barrel for the date codes.

I'd say someone installed a heavier lug and might of set it back a wee bit.......

Those measurement numbers are pretty small for a 700 receiver that is normally 1.062....

The lug is thin. Measures 0.162.

I thought small also..Replacement went in at standard as it was turned and threaded before original was removed..Used same lug and had to set shoulder back 0.166..Receiver fits 40x footprint overall length and bolt holes..Front bolt hole is into the ways...Arent some into barrel shank? LT
