What .284 Charge Weights?

I'm doing load developement with 168 Berger VLD's, seated to touch the lands, Win brass.

What are the starting and max charge weights for 4831SC ?

Try looking at the above towards the bottom of the article. Or maybe do a search and I know a few more will pop up.

I usually don't like giving out loads, but when I go out to my reloading room, I will look it up for you. But I am sure you will find something by searching.

I use 53.0 grains of H4831sc with the 168gr Bergers and have no signs of excessive pressure. I've used Winchester and Lapua brass, but only use Lapua these days. I believe recommended starting loads would be in the 47 grain range and max around 56 grain.

Al,
I am running 56.5 grains with the Shehane and the 180 Hybrid right now, but was up to 58 without pressure in a Barnard. You could start at 50 and go up a grain at a time until you find some pressure signs, then stop. Then you know the top end. I do this with every rifle/cartridge to start. It takes less than 10 shots to know where you can safely operate beofre you load a whole bunch of cases up.

See you Sunday for the prairie dog shoot? Bring out the Tikka and have some fun.

The bergers do better with a jump to lands. I use the 168 veld target In my 7 rem mag and 63.5 gr H48313.310 OAL

Al,
I just picked up 200 of the new Berger "Hunting Classic" hybrids, 7mm, 168 grain. Boy are they pretty. Now I need to find the time to try them in the Shehane and one of my magnums. Might be easier to load for.

How are you getting 2950 with a charge that's 9 gr under max? Myinr is 1gr under and over 5 shots it spreads from 2935-2960
Bottom left shot I corrected left instead of right

I failed to mention that this is out of a .284 Win in my post.

By the way I push the 180's at 2900 with a similar load to that of the 168.

55.5 grains with 4831SC with the 168 VLD jumping .020". 2950FPS. 30" Barrel. Very good load.

I've heard 54.5-55 is a sweet load. You're getting some pretty good snort out of your .284...

30" barrel prob helps a bit.

I checked them out at John's tonight. I held them, I fondled them, then I put them back and just bought a couple pounds of powder. ;D

Bringing this post back from the dead...

My best 168 VLD load during break-in/fireforming was 55.5 gr 4831 SC at:

Average Vel=2817
ES =29
SD =11

53.5 gr threw a .592"-5 shot, but the numbers weren't all that great, and 200 yards was just o.k.

These numbers were 10' from the bench, 32F, from a 25" bbl.

180's are shooting considerably ;) better, and a report will follow tomorrows range session.
