On occasion a small sow may be used for sausage but the boars have a strong game smell. Most are left for coyotes and buzzards.

I used to be a fan of taking the smaller ones and putting on the smoker for a day. The last two however had a petroleum taste and paste like texture. Maybe eating something around a leaking fuel tank or well piping. Gave it to my dogs and they would not eat them either. Now we leave them for the scavengers.

I had a friend coming to drop off a stock for work. He owns a game/hunting ranch. He said he’d be late because he was dropping off a hog he shot to another friend that wants one every year for Christmas dinner with his family. Evidently, some folks like them.

If they’re eating “clean” food, young sows are IMO the finest pork on the planet. Anything else is coyote bait.

A whole lot of bear bait there! Especially if they "wandered" into the smoker for a few days smoke 'em good and hard.

Maybe as good as the smoked suckers I used one year.
