Weaver Tactical 6-30x56

Wondering if anyone has one or has messed with one? Curious to know what your thoughts are compared to other scopes in its price range. Use will be paper and steel out to 1000+. Natchez has them on sale for 750 til tomorrow 8/29.

I had a Weaver Super Slam in 3-15. I used it very lightly for less than a year and it stopped tracking accurately. The lighted reticule also stopped working. It appeared that I could see the bottom post (plex) thicker as if it supplied current to the illuminated dot. I read the Weaver warranty online and they said it was warrantied to the original owner with proof of purchase. Fortunately I bought it from a friend and he sent it back for me. Weaver said they could not repair it and offered the 3x15 Tactical. I have not mounted it or used it yet, so I can't comment on performance.

So, the warranty is good and they traded me up significantly considering I only paid $350 for it.

I do not have experience with the 6-30 but I do have one of the weaver tactical FFP mil/mil 4-20, and it is a great scope. Very rugged, great turrets, clear glass, and accurate tracking. This have become my second favorite cost conscious scopes on the market, the first being the Burris XTR II. I hope this helps in any way about the 6-30.

I hesitantly bought one. I only say hesitantly because $750 is still a sizable cost and you don't exactly see weaver on the top 100 list for PRS shooters. I won't have mine until next Wednesday. Hopefully it lives up to its MSRP

I haven't been able to find much info on the interweb. There is a couple interesting posts on snipershide but not much else.

Rampedraptor - if you could update here your thoughts on it I would appreciate it. I've read comments that compares it to some pretty decent competition favorably. It appears that sale did not end but is good for awhile based on there flyer, your hands on info may sway me:)

I'm not really in any position to give a scope an optical review but I'll chime in after I spend some time with with and let you know subjectively what I think

Was able to get out today and test the scope out for the first time.

Weather was over cast most of the day with an occasional beam of sunlight making its way down to the targets. Only scope I could compare it to is a gen 2 razor that I had with me.

Short and sweet

Field of view was smaller than my razor but for me it's not a issue.

Turret clicks and their smart zero turrets are great. Really nice with regards to audible, tactile and visual appearance. Super easy to get a perfect zero. Didn't do a ton of dialing but it returned to zero at the end of the day and my dope matched up so I assume the tracking is good to go. I did not run a box test.

Structure: appearance and feel of the scope makes you feel like you have a nice quality unit. Does not feel fragile at all.

Magnification and focus adjustment: once again they scored very high in my eyes. Very easy to adjust and secure once you've found the sweet spot.

Glass: clarity seemed very good and arguably better than I expected. However, I noticed on white targets their was a pronounced blue halo around the edges. I know there is a fancy optical word for this but it's not in my vocabulary. Even on 30x I thought the scope had a very good picture considering how overcast it was today.

Reticle: I know many belittle it and I agree it was not the right one for weaver to go with but it did not hinder me at all. Open center dot on the reticle is something I've grown to really appreciate. Thickness of the reticle is a little on the heavy side but it was not too thick. I did not test how the illumination feature looked. I actually forgot it even had it.

Over all I feel the scope is a steal for the sale price. If I was paying full retail I would expect there to be less blue halo and the reticle would bother me significantly more for $1700.

Verdict: the scope is a bit much for the ar15 I have it on. Would be fantastic on a bolt action or maybe a long range AR but on my SPR ish rifle it looks a little out of place.

Disclaimer: I don't have any education on how to review optics or even what to assess for. This is just a average joe review to shine some light on a product that seems to be overlooked.

Just pulled the trigger on a Leica ER5 3-15x56 on sale at EuroOptics <$650. Going to use it on a night coyote rifle. Hope I am as satisfied as you.

The Weaver Tactical is only available from Natchez, isn't it?

Very nice review. FYI, the term you're looking for here is chromatic aberration, also commonly referred to as color fringing. I only know this because I sell a line of optics for a living (along with some other outdoors brands).

It is VERY difficult to eliminate color fringing, especially the higher the magnification is.

One of the things I have found that helps is adjusting the ocular focus. I had never done this before on a scope and did not know how to correctly do it until recently. I was having issues with not being able to get a good focus on targets and learned my ocular focus was out of adjustment.

Go outside on a nice clear blue sky day. Set your parallax to infinite, or it's highest setting. Point the scope toward the blue sky and adjust the ocular focus until your reticle looks perfect. Then look at your target at 100 yards and readjust the parallax setting until the target and crosshairs are dialed in.
