weaver t-series 1000 yds 24 or 36?

I've been lurking on this site for a while. I used to shoot long range in the service, but have been out of it for 15 years. Last winter, I built up a Remington 700 in 6.5 creedmoor with a 10 power tactical scope that I would like to replace. I am going to start participating in a monthly long range varmint silhouette that takes place on the 850 to 1000 yard lines. The range is located in Pennsylvania.
I have a tight budget and so have settled on a t-series weaver. My question is should I go with the 36 or 24 power? I've never used a high magnification scope before and so am concerned about two things. First, I don't want to have too little magnification, but also I don't want so much that mirage becomes a major issue.
I would love to hear peoples experience and recommendations, 24 or 36 power.

Thanks in advance,
Mitch

Re: weaver t-series 100 yds 24 or 36?

We get some pretty bad mirage down here in Fl. I like 35x as a minimum at 1000. Just learn to shoot with the mirage.

You may be talking about Ridgeway shooting range? Anyway i do have a friend who shoots there with a 5-25 Schmidt&Bender scope and he wishes he had more power. But if you choose the T36 scope then you will be fighting mirage and cannot adjust the scope down. If you can scratch up the funds look for a variable scope like possibly a Sightron SIII in 8-32 or even a 10-50 Sightron. Buy once and cry once. :)

For a fixed, I think a 24X makes sense: get a variable if you want more magnification for the reasons stated above. I've used a 24X at 1K plenty and it works fine.

I appreciate the advice.
It seems there is no definitive on 24 or 36. I like the idea of a variable, but did not want to drop the dinero.

24 power. I used to have a 45 power competition leupold and mirage was something. I don't shoot 1000 yards. usually round 800 is all I shoot. i shot 45 power first time. shot 16 power second time. group was better. sold 45 power. I'm no bench rest shooter though. always make 2.9 inch bull when I shoot 770 yards.
