Weaver Classic T Series XR Rifle Scope - 46x48mm

These are on the market now. Anybody used one, how is the repeatability and clicks? With 48mm objective and 30mm tube, is it much brighter than the T36X? Is the eye box forgiving? Is the eye relief critical? How does it compare to the 45X Leupold? Is it made in Japan with Japanese glass?

Thanks,

Bill

In my personal experience " JUNK ".
First went in for repair came back as bad or worse jumped all over.
Second would not move properly with turret adj. and side focus kept shifting.
To Weaver's CS they returned full cost plus shipping.

Was this recent or when they first came out? The chatter I've heard is the early scopes had problems, but the newer ones might be better. The reason I ask is because I've considered this scope many times over the last 6 months but always held off because of the very mixed reviews. These can be had at a great price depending on where you look.

A well known shooter and gunsmith used one to win a short range 2-gun agg over the summer here in PA, so maybe there is some hope.

I know of a famous HOF shooter who just bought one to tinker with, so hopefully we will get some more feedback moving forward whether it's positive or negative. It sure would be nice to have a solid budget offering on a higher magnification fixed power scope.

I purchased a T-36 XR recently and had to return it due to black spots in the lens. Weaver CS said this was a problem only in the XR line, which was caused by excessive lubrication inside the scope but they are working on resolving that issue. Other than that the glass was still pretty clear for my old eyes. I was refunded for the cost of the scope and shipping. I own several models of Weaver scopes and this was the first issue I've had with one.

Thanks. I ended up with a NF 42X because I was concerned about that Weaver 46. I probably made a good choice even though it was tempting to save a bunch of dollars.

I know only what I read about the early release scopes. I purchased 2 of the 46x about 3 months ago and have had zero problems and certainly would not consider them JUNK. I put one on a railgun and the other on a HV rifle. Both have performed flawlessly and have held POA. The scopes are clear and mine have no spots on the lenses.

Your the 1st person that I've heard that had a spot problem with the 36X Weaver. Every single person that had problems with oil spots on the lenses have been with the 1st generation 46X's. I know at least a half dozen people who I compete against say that other than the oil spots, the scope was very good. Somebody mentioned the 1st ones were in July of 2016, Shinny Shinglock brought one and I looked thru it at the 100-200 yard State IBS score shoot in Johnstown, NY back in August of 2014. Mike Suhie from CT also used one at that event.

My understanding is that it was only the 1st generation 46 power version of the scope was the one that was having the issue.. they all were recalled.. and the company had fixed the problem with the "oil" spots. Like you Jim, this is the first that i have read about someone having an issue with a scope other than the 46X.
First ones were in July 2016, second one was June & July 2017. Settled on a Leupold 45x.
Were you using a Scope Checker?

But was this a first generation scope that wasn't originally returned on the recall? Could have been.. or

I plan to get another T-36 XR once I get my refund check, I do like the Weaver scopes not only for the price but for there clarity, function and ruggedness. I'm only shooting 100-300 yards so the T-36's are enough power for me.
