Weaver,and other) Scope question

On the Grand Slam, do you know if the windage and elevation adjustments are accurate, repeatable and hold well ?

Did the engineering of such change when Meade purchased Weaver ? If so for better or worst.

Other variable varmint scopes in the $350 - $550.00 range that are known to have accurate adjustments ?

I am looking to put a new scope on a Tikka 22-250 Varmint. My main concern is windage and elevation adjustment accuracy.

Thank you much.

One of the techs at Kenton Industries said good things about them a couple of days ago. They make those BDC adjustment knobs for them so he gets quite a bit of feedback and they only work if you have repeatability.. JimDee
PS: they make them for Leupold, NightforceNSX, Burris and a few others also.

Grey Ghost,
I have three Grand Slams, my four PD shooting buddies all shoot Grand Slams. -We have been shooting a total of ten Grand Slams for over past four seasons. We all, to a man used to shoot Luppys, I think the resolution and repeatability is much, much better on Weaver Scopes than Leupolds.

Weavers are just a great value!

Thanks all,

So Chuck the windage and elevation adjustments are true and can be trusted to dial up and down while varmint shooting or at the range ?

My concern also is.......Since the parent company buy out of Weaver, Redfield and Simmons. Are the adjustments still as true ? Did they change it ?

I can live with vision aspects of a scope that may lack in comparison to some. What really bothers and I just can not except is a scope who's adjustments for windage and elevation are not true. Or maybe I should say ......."consistent."

Gray ghost,
Elevation and windage clicks on the Grand Slams are very positive and repeatable. I just traded two used Luppy 36X for two new Weaver 36X even. The other guy has been shooting Luppys for a long time and will not give the Weavers a try.
I bought my first Grand Slam as a throwaway scope to be mounted on a cheap .17 HMR Savage. It changed my opinion of Weavers completely. I was not a Weaver guy, now I am.
Take a resolution chart to the store and compare the Weaver and the Luppy. Then make your choice.

I had the pleasure of using a pair of Grand Slam scopes last year for the first time. I sold them to a friend since he could not afford Leupolds. He asked me to help him in setting them up on his .223 and .22BR. Both scopes were very positive on adjustments on the turrets, and I am very impressed with the clarity, and resolution, of the optics. I also shot the last half of the benchrest season two years ago with a T-36 and I found it to be better in all areas of performance than the old "D" series 36X Leupold on the team rifle that I shoot at Sinclair. The T-36 was mounted on a friends 22PPC BR gun, and he had asked me to shoot the rifle to set it up and dial it in since he is a long haul truck driver and did not have the time to do this himself. I almost hated to hand the rifle, and scope, back to him. I can recommend the Grand Slam scopes, based on my own experience with them, and I would not hesitate to use them for my own personal use.

Cordially,
Bob Blaine

Thanks Bob,

Looks like I will get a Grand Slam 6-20x40 then for my 22-250

You set up his 22BR & .223. I already have Tikka rings that came with and seem o.k. with the scope I have on it now. The 40 mm objective has a nice 1/32 gap from my barrel after flip ups with them, on the current scope. So the Weaver should finish off the same.

Question Did you have to shim the rings to gain elevation ? Burris rings etc. ?

Although I have a rare chance of popping a crow at 600 + yards with the rifle and my skills:, I still try a couple times per year.

. I would like to dial up for the shot and give it my best. From my zero of 250, I have a drop of 57.6" @ 600 yards. Can I get that much elevation out of that scope with my rings ? No shims ? Differant rings needed ?

Thanks to this site I may make that shot with the above and a little luck someday ;)

Crows.... never sit still long in field and seem to have a force field around them :sneaky:

Thanks for your time sir.
