Weaver 36X - Fine Cross hairs are they TOO fine??

Sirs
sorry if this has been addressed already but I could not find it on the forum.

I am considering a Weaver 36X for 200yd rimfire training. I have read some great reviews from many of you but also read a review where the reviewer said the cross hairs were too fine and he/she could not pick them up on many target backgrounds. Any issues like this that you folks have seen??

thanks in advance for your time and thoughts.

I dont do too much 200 rimfire with my t36 but I do shoot 6brs at 200 with it and I dont have any trouble with it. I dont shoot too many different color background colors. IMO it should be ok if you are not doing too many tactical match style shooting. But off a bench, its a great piece of glass.

For my eyes the fine cross hair was too fine. But I think only you can make that decision with your own eyes. If you have the opportunity to look through one before you buy it, be sure to do so. Take it outside if you can and test it in real world conditions.

The good news is that you can buy them used for about $300 here on this website, If you decide you don't like it, it is just as easy to sell them on this website for the same price provided you don't damage it or put some nasty ring marks on it.

My close vision is not great but I really like the fine cross hairs on the Weavers and have no problem seeing them and in fact got to look through a scope with 1/16 th. minute x-hairs and liked it even better and I can't even read anything without having to squint without glasses.

I have three t-36 weavers. The first two I bought have the fine crosshair and I love them. I recently purchased another with a very fine dot which I haven't had the chance to use as yet. It looks good from inside the house, looking out upon this frozen earth. I hope the dot doesn't cover up my target. OTTER is right: The magic number is $300 used and in good shape.

I use the fine cross with dot. I find it much more natural as your eye automatically gets drawn to the center. I do love the Weaver T series, great scopes for the cost.

I think that dot is a 1/8 minute on the T36's, same as in their varmint scopes. If thats the case, that dot will not cover up targets like p-dpgs, even though they are way out there. It was my favorite scope on my one and only dog trip (so far).

I have two with fine crosshairs, one purchased from Otter. No problem shooting at 1000 on F-Class targets. It is rare that we have low-light conditions when shooting. If you live in an area with frequent, heavy overcast, it could be a problem.

With finer cross hairs ocular focus has a greater effect on their visibility. Because of this, if you look through a scope that is not focused for your eye, you may get the impression that the reticle is harder to see than is really is. The only way to know what it looks like is to go ahead and do a full scope adjustment for your particular vision. Actually, compared to some Benchrest scopes that I have seen, the Weaver reticle is thicker than some of the other factory reticles, and a lot thicker than some of the aftermarket cross hairs that are paired with small dots.

I have two Weaver T-36 scopes with fine cross hairs. Anytime you put BLACK on BLACK, fine black cross hairs on a predominately BLACK background, you're going to have visual problems locating bullet holes, especially at 200 yards.

The cure? Use targets that are devoid of large black backgrounds such as Targets #10081, #10085 and #10089 found on this page: http://www.targetz.com/targets06.htm Good shooting.

Re: Weaver 36X - Fine Cross hairs are they TOO fine?? NOPE!

Guys,

found a T36 and just got back from the range - cross hairs were excellent- now just wish I could shoot well.

Thanks again for all the great input
