Weatherby Vanguard in .243 Caliber

Hi Everyone...

I'm new to this forum, and haven't had a lot of experience in shooting, reloading, and such, but was hoping someone might be able to help me identify some info on a Weatherby Vanguard (Made in Japan) chambered in .243.

What I know....

Synthetic Stock
22" Varmint Barrel
S/N: VL40465

I'm looking for info on Date of Manufacture, Barrel Twist, and basically anything else I can find for info on this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks,

DD753

I'm not a Weatherby expert by any means but more than likely it was made by Howa and most likely has a 1-10 twist.

Is this new or used? If it is a current model you will have to call weatherby to find out when it was actually made.

Hi Jon, and Thanks for your reply...

I've done a little more checking, and it looks like in was manufactured in 1989. Barrel twist is 1:10, and I was mistaken about the barrel length, it's actually a 24".

The whole reason I started looking into the specs for the rifle, was because I started looking into getting some bullets for reloading, but didn't know how much bullet weight and length it could handle. But now knowing what the twist rate is will help me in choosing the bullets the rifle can handle....

I think I'm good.... Now to just find a bullet that's good on anything from Groundhogs to yotes to deer....

Not asking much am I..??? ;)

I have owned and shot a number of 243's over the years; most of them shot an 85 gr HPBT or an 87gr HPBT really well. I plan to use some 87 gr VMAX's for my recently purchased Ruger Varmint rifle. Sierra lists an accuracy load and a hunting load for it. The members on this website can offer some good advice. Agmeyer
