Weatherby Vanguard Free Float the Forearm ?

Weatherby on their website says No to free floating a barrel under#3 contour . My Vanguard has a #2 (22/250)contour. I'm awaiting shipment on a Bell & Carlson medalist stock. This rifle with tupperware stocks surpasses their guarantee of 3 shots MOA at 100 yds . Thinking maybe I should just pillar bed it and be done with it ? What say ya'll ?

I'm in the same boat. I left it and as long as I take my time between shots my.vanguard does just fine. I'll keep the free floating to when I change barrels.

I have a Vanguard in 30-06 and when I purchased a B&C replacement stock it came with the forend pressure points. Mine is a hunting rifle, so I left them. It shoots MOA with handloads, but it starts to wander when warm.

Here's what I found with my 25-06 V2, with factory ammo it shot 2 differen't loads consistantly below 1" @100 yards. Whene I removed the pressure point that went away, groups opened up to +/- 1.5" I new I was gonna handload for this rifle anyway.
Hand loads now are .5 moa. Where I had problems was getting the free floating right. Kept getting flyers with about .015" free float (a piece of masking tape doubled over) I opened it up to about .030" and that did the trick
hope this helps, E

Well I have the rifle back from Gunsmith. Wanted him to bed it and free float it. I can't slip any paper at all between the BBL and forearm. But its glass bedded .It's a Bell & Carlson medalist. What tool should I get that I can open up the forearm myself ?
