Weatherby fans?

I've recently picked up an obsession with light weight hunting rifles. Does the forum have any Weatherby fans? I'm looking at a Wby light weight in 270 Win, stainless fluted barrel. Any current owners on here? Just looking for a general consensus of owners satisfaction.

I have had one of the ultralight mark 5s in 270 win and it was a shooter for sure. Recoil was not bad at all. I have one right now in 240wby and it is a baby doll to hunt with. Get one and enjoy..

Hi the 257 was Roy's favorite and I can see why, I have a 12 twist that I shoot 70gr Blitzkings out of, a 270 11 twist that I shoot 90gr Sierra HPs and a 12 twist 300 that I shoot 110gr Vmax's, and I was really torn when it was time to chose between a 338-378 and an 338 Edge in they end $4.00 for a piece of Weatherby brass made the decision for me, I have a 25-06 that I always thought was the best caliber ever chambered, then I Ackley Improved it and thought how can anything possibly be better than this, well guess what the 257 is by far my favorite rife, the fact that it has the nicest stock, scope, and action, I have gives it away, that and the sibling rivalry that is going on with they other rifles,

A friend of mine was a Weatherby fan (long time) he had a lightweight in 270 win. Very accurate rifle for a factory barrel. Only downside was recoil. Rifle couldn't have weighed 6# with a scope on it and it would almost stand vertical from the bench. Magna porting cured that issue. If you want a lightweight carry rifle, you're on the right track. I would shoot it before you make any decision.

Another thing I noticed, necked down 7mm and 270 Weatherby brass lasts longer than straight 257 brass, if you are going to buy Weatherby brass @ $3.00 a pop, Hornady @ a dollar and change per piece is OK, and you can neck it up if you can find it,

The best 257 wby brass is the winchester 7 mag brass run in the 257wby die till the bolt just closes. Then just fire away. Will be just a touch short in oal, but never have to trim.

Can you do the same with 264 WM

I haven't tried or looked at it close enough. The shoulder may be forward more on the 264 win mag to keep it from chambering in the other mag calibers. Just try a piece. Imperial lube it up good and take small steps. On the 7 mag stuff you are putting in the first radius down at the nk junction. Fireing will finish the shoulder out.

I did pick up the lightly used Mark V lightweight that I looked at the other night. Going load tonight. Deer season is coming up quick.

I have a Wby Vanguard Deluxe in ,270 Win. Extremely nice looking rifle with high gloss barrel and great finish on the stock. Plus it shoots great. Recoil is quite mild, and I think the stock design helps with that. It is not a lightweight though. Only draw back is it is such a nice rifle I have some hesitation taking it into the field hunting.

Have a Wby Vanguard .223 varmint rifle with the Bell and Carlsen stock. A little on the heavy side. It shoots very good as well. I like the Mark V rifles but never wanted to spend that much on a hunting rifle. Other than the shorter bolt lift, I don't see any advantage over the Vanguards.

I have a Weatherby Supervarmint Master, Mark 5, in 223 (I believe its no longer made).

I paid a terribly high price for it new ($1,550), but it's an extremely accurate (sub 1/4 moa) rifle with tailored hand loads and has a great trigger. Its one of the few factory rifles I ever owned that I didn't have to tinker with to get to shoot really well.

The only compliant I have is that it does not smoothly feed rounds from the magazine. This is not a big issue for me since I single load even why hunting (varmints) to prevent any damage to bullets during chambering. This would be a significant issue if it was a big game rifle.

I have three buddies who have the Super Big Gamemasters or the equivalent lightweight companion which is only different in color. Two are 257 mags and one is a 7mm Rem Mag. All three are very nice factory rifles and quite accurate considering. There were expensive rifles if I recall. I have loaded for all three with pretty good luck.

I don't find $1550.00 a terribly high price for sub 1/4 moa, those came with a Krieger barrel and a HS Precision stock, then you have the smooth WBY action with 6 locking lugs, on a 233 cal, talk about over kill.

Thanks for the read. I got lucky with this one, with minimal development it shoots three in the low .6s at 100. 130 NBTs and RE-22 did the trick.
