Shooters,
Warren County Rifle Club held it’s fifth long-range match of 2006. The match was held, as usual, on AEDC in Tullahoma TN. We had 30 shooters come out to enjoy the day today. Twenty-seven shooters came out early and helped us repair, rebuild and reface forty-five,45) targets for the upcoming registered match. We’d like to say Thank You again to all of you who came out to help and shoot the match. A special thank you to Danny Shelton, who came out to help even though he doesn’t shoot long-range, yet.
Weather was beautiful all day, with a mean temp of about 82*F on the range. High clouds and bright sun was the predominant condition, but some of the relays lucked out and had some overcast conditions that took some of the sting from the sun off. The first round down today was 11:45am and the match concluded at 4:45pm. Four-relay rotation was used, as well as standard long-range targets at all firing points. A range flag was set at the pits, and one was used at 600-yards, but it was pretty much worthless. Catching mirage was key today, but conditions, overall, were very good. Light winds and good light, spoiled by the occasional fishtail.
The match winner today was also our top Junior! Justin Robinson held on for an impressive 400-21x. Top F-TR was Jason Burnette, putting up a 393-19x. Top Any Rifle was Howard Pitts, who used his 6PPR,a chambering of his own design) to win with a 393-15x. Top woman of the day was Elen Hayes, with a 197-6x,a personal best) and top sub-junior was Dakota Hayes with a 196-5x,also a personal best). I was quickly chastised for not loading enough ammo for both of those ladies to complete the aggregate. A mistake I won’t soon do again!
Individual match winners for Open were Justin Robinson,match 1 – 200-13x) Jim Murphy,Match 2 – 200-18x and a tie for range record). F-TR match winner was Jason Burnette, who took both matches.,194-6 and 199-13) High Any Rifle was Jack Little,match 1 – 196-8) and Howard Pitts,match 2 – 197-9).
The next scheduled match will be June 17th, which is an 80 shot registered across the course highpower match. June 18th, there will be a Pres 100 practice in the morning and a 2x1000 long-range match at 11am. Registration for the across the course matches is 8am both days. Registration for the long-range match will be at 10:30am behind the 600-yard berm. If there are any questions about the upcoming matches, please email me at 20xclean@comcast.net.
Thanks again to all who came out to help make this a safe and successful match, and for those that were able to come out and help ensure the next one will be as successful. Until next time,
All X’s and 10’s,
Chris Hayes
