Way to accurize a weatherby mrkV accumark 300 winmag

I have put a fair bit of time into tuning my hand loads and I was just wondering what options i have with accurizing the rifle itself. Ive been thinking of a slick bedding job, maybe some work to the contact points of the locking lugs. However as im sure you are all aware there are 9 locking lugs with the weatherby mrkV action so would this process still be possible? Also getting the trigger worked over and maybe lightened a tad i believe it is around 2lbs atm which is a bit heavy for the tactical work i intend on doing with it.

I'd say your right on key. If it were me I'd just bed the action n free float the bbl. and get that trigger to break good and clean, lower the waight a bit too. I probly wouldn't bother lapping the lugs because you may have to set the barrel back to get a tight headspace. Other than that just keep an eye on the rings and base. Hope it works out for ya.

I've fiddled with a few Weatherbys over the past 30 years and I can tell you the following:
A good stress free bedding job will never hurt
I wouldn't fiddle with the locking lugs
If you want a really light trigger, go to an after market one
Free floating does not "always" help a rifle with a lighter barrel
The following is the biggie as far as I'm concerned...
It really matters what you expect your rifle to be able to do If you want a supreme hunting rifle for big game...the first shot out of a cold rifle is the most important thing to bother yourself with, and it's the most trouble to deal with.
Free floating the barrel will help in this category. Many factory barrels are "straightened", thus as the barrel heats up, the POI can change...to a large extent in some instances. If this is your intent (to have a rifle that is deadly accurate on the first shot) then you must do your preparation in that direction, meaning load development and grouping to be consistant on the first shot. Go to the range with your prepared rifle, set up your target and fire one shot at the given range that you have determined to be the most likely distance trying to closely imitate "field conditions"...then pack up your stuff and go home or prepare to wait at least an hour or so before shooting the second shot at the same target under the same conditions. All the while you must determine if your hunting rifle will be taken afield with a pristinely clean bore or as fired from the last range session...shoot a 5 shot group in this manner and you will then realize not only your rifles potential, but your potential as well!
If you're looking for a target rifle, start from scratch with a custom action and go from there or buy a good one second hand and save yourself a lot of time, money and grief!

This is so very true as it is the first shot that counts when hunting. And that method of testing the rifles potential is excellent and i will try it out thanks for the advice.

I have experience a rifles point of impact changing as it heats up with shots fired. My tikka m55 222 does this as it is a light weight sporter with a none floated barrel. It is dead on all the time for about the first 5-7 shots then it shifts to the right by about 1/2 MOA which is very annoying when at the range but not noticeable when hunting.
