Wax on bullets and testing?

Soooo breaking in and trying to find best ammo for a new ER shaw bbl. Any idea about how many rounds to condition the bbl for the next brand's wax?

20 give or take works for me in my 22RF rifles. Good shooting.

For my Shaw barrel, it takes 10-20 rounds.

When I go to the range, I shoot 30-5 rd. groups. I throw out the first 2 for, me and the gun, warming up. They are consistently not the best groups. I get my best groups between 8 and 20 groups in, then accuracy declines.

I use 12 from clean, changing lots within the same brand, I use 5. If I were to change brands, personally I would clean it first. Reason being, Eley uses a wax based lube, Lapua’s lube is something like grease. I have done that without cleaning, but the results were very inconsistent, as opposed to cleaning. YMMV

I was shooting up some old green tag and sv. I shot 10 5 rd groups of each alternately. The first 2 sv groups were better and the first 2 green tag groups were usually the largest of the 10. The green tag grouped only slightly better over the course of the test than the sv. I shot up about 1 and a half bricks of green tag during the test.

OK thank you all I use Boretech rimfire and it cleans well. As easy as it cleans I am going to clean and use a 10 round foul and see. Great advice thanks

Don’t use an arbitrary amount, the better the barrel, generally, the fewer the required sighters, you’ll see your POI stabilize and groups start to form.

Indeed. I've used as little as a 5 shot group to get confident before going for score, and I've used as many as 20-25. Different ammo can just take longer than others may take to settle in.
