Watcha' Think?

What do you think of this stock,California Sporter) as a walking varminter in 6 BR. Love the cast off and the palm swell. Am also going to have 3 vents machined in each side of the fore end.

Let me first say that I like classic style stocks for hunting and walking varminters. That is one of the ugliest stocks I have ever seen. Sorry.

I have to agree with Tightneck, That Richard sure makes a nice looking wood stock. Maybe I'll send him my 6br action that currently is in a glass HS stock to bed in one of his wood stocks. Better yet Maybe I'll Have him build me another 6br:)

I'm in Phoenix this week and I went by McMillan to hold some of their stocks. I was really impressed by the A1-3. The adjustable HTG is also a good one,it is the M40A-1 stock with adjustable cheek piece). An alternative to this is the Manners MCS-T.

Lynn, have you been sniffin' glue? Look at the drop, the pistol grip, and the forend on the lonewolf. That thing aint even close to the Richard's. As far as the wood goes, all his stocks are laminated, and hold up extemely well in the elements with the proper finish. I don't think laminates give up anything to fiberglass stocks these days. Look at the success of Shehane and Leonard laminated stocks in BR shooting. I'm not saying I don't like fiberglass, I'm currently building an ultralight BG rifle on a Bansner classic glass stock. I'm just saying that I don't thing there is a better looking or functioning classic style varmint stock on the market today.

If I'm looking at the correct picture?
You got me there. I wasn't looking at the right one. The HOWLER is one of the ugliest stocks I have ever seen:D. The California stock isn't all bad, but I'll still take a #10 RCR stock any day. I don't car for the curly maple gripcat and forend tip either, just trying to illistrate the style of varmint stock I like. I like ebony.

Lynn: hows that stock for off hand shots? I have been drooling over that stock for some time now, but I cant seem to find alot of pictures of it on the web.

MODERATOR: Northman, here you go...

HUNTER CLASS BENCHREST:
The hunter class stock is identical to the standard benchrest, except that the flares on the forend have been removed to meet the 2.250" width requirement. The hunter class stock will weigh approximately 1lb. 12oz. Both benchrest tang and Remington tang molds are available. For blind magazine or single shot only.

In a McMillan, I like the winchester field marksman stock for a walking varminter. Does well in the bags as well as off a bipod. It is an excellent stock for offhand use as well. The purple/white stock pictured above is essentially the same stock, with a flat forend.
