warping a reciever?

what happened? had a 22brx that would not shoot. replaced the barrel with another kreiger in 6mmbr .2704 neck. same hs precision stock and stiller predator repeator action. shot proven accuracy loads and not so good? bought a bruce baer laminated pillar bedded stock for a stiller predator action and proceed to remove the barrel action from the hs stock. rear screw came out ok BUT the front screw WOULD NOT COME OUT! my long allen was bending. if anybody was going to break it, it would be me. i leaned with everything and it POPPED! i thought i had broken the screw, but it came out whole. the barreled action fit the bruce baer stock like a glove, so i tightened the screws. NOW the bolt would not come past the middle of the ejection port...it was binding hard. i tapped the bole handle and it finally came out. i cleaned everything completely, greased and reinserted the bolt and it would bind at mid port. i was frustaed, so i left it be until the next am. tried again and now it would chamber with some binding...it would shoot, so i returned to the range with same loads that didn't shoot and SHAZAM! several 3 shot groups were in the ones! HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY. my gsmith and i suspected a warpage that was slowly correcting itself. he used a little lapping compound on the right lug and in no time the bolt was sliding thru butter. he then recalled when he put the action in the hs stock there was a "very little rocking". he also assured me the front action screw was nowhere as tight as i noted. i suspect it was affected by the removal of the rear screw and the warping of the reciever? has anybod y seen this happen?

If it was bedded to begin with in the hs stock then it was not stress free and whoever did the bedding induced the stress.Did you bed the baer stock? If not I suggest you send it to someone to have it done right. The hs stock was definitely overtighted because as he said,it rocked in the stock. Vee blocks are not perfect in those stocks and if off enough you could tighten it down and spring an action. After you unscrew it it should spring back if only tweaked alittle.

I have seen people overtighten the screws in blind holes when the screw is too long and lock the bolt up. The rear screws on bats are the worst. It is very thin there and the cocking piece is close enough when it domes up it wont let the bolt move over it. I agree you should send it somewhere to be done right. The screw should fall into the stock and screw in by hand. Put sharpie on the end of it and make sure its not bottoming out.
