WARNING: Don't try this at home:: 1,020 yard EGG

As Big G says, guys don't try this at home.

DISCLAIMER

First off, I do not have a video camera and no metal
targets at 1,000 yard to sight in on. My 1000 yd spot
requires walking all the way and crossing a few fences
so no metal plates for sight in. Maybe in a few weeks
I will decide which video system to get, then I can try this
thing correctly with a white paper target and a colored egg
setting flush against the paper like a X in the ten ring.
So I realize that the method I used today could not be official
because it could be a skipped bullet, etc., etc.

That being said -- now the story

I thought about it all day at work Monday and was certain I was
going to go for the 1,020 yd on Tuesday conditions permitting.
Got up and started loading the truck and sent Shayne a text to
meet me at Rocky Top. Conditions were absolutely perfect.
No wind and cloudy. My floating dot in the March was very clear
at 25X and no parallax. I walked three eggs over to a spot that
lazered 1,020 yds in a spot of very short grass. On the way I picked
up a hedge apple to serve as a sight in target. I had a set of walky-
talkies and Shayne confirmed the eggs were visible. The walk involves
crossing two fences and is not a straight line. Took close to an hour to
make the trip. Now we are ready.

Conditions have gotten even better and the dot in the March is just
slightly smaller than the egg at 25X. I had up to 60-X but 25X was about
max to get back on the egg to see splash.
I dialed the elevation to 23 MOA and I was a little low and right with the first shot
on the hedge apple. I dialed it in and 25 moa was dead on. I took
maybe 5 sighters on the apple making a click or two of adjustment and
then my last two shots hit the same spot.
I told Shayne to watch the let egg and I touched shot #one off.
Hit really close at 8 o'clock. I quickly reloaded the BAT and held
just off the egg at 2 o'clock. Touched off #2 and was able to get
back on the egg in time to see white shells fragments in the air.
EGG DOWN
I repeat: DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME

Now I do not claim to have centered the egg. Maybe the bullet slid
along the ground like a torpedo and centered the egg.
What can't be denied is the egg exploded on second shot at 1,020 yd.

I told Shayne to crawl under the Bat and get it while it was hot.
4 or 5 shots and his egg disappeared off radar. We were spotting for
each other with a March 8-80X so it was HIGH DEFINITION.

Beautiful sight.
We shot a total of 14 times including sighters.
Shayne took no sighters.

Six shots on hedge apple
Six shots by Shayne on egg
Two shots by me on egg

I always enjoy reading, and seeing the pictures, of your adventures.

One day I'll have my Dasher sorted out well enough to impose on you for an invitation and experience the excitement for myself.

Good shooting, happy times with friends and God bless.

Phil.

Come on over Phil anytime. Love to have you.
In 2014 I had a weekend shoot that had guys from
Virginia, South Carolina, Ky, Indy, Wisconsin, and Louisiana.
We shot Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
Egss at 240, 300, 800,
Ground hog and Prarie dog at 800
Even had a 338 Improved and a 375 Snipetac that got everone's
attention. When the Snipetac (improved Cheytac) went off, the roof shook and about
5 gallons on water fell from roof top where it had showered a couple
of hours before.

Birdog,

I truly appreciate the generous offer, i will keep you posted with my progress.

Phil.

Phil, the pictures don`t do this property justice or does the typing show the graciousness of the host, its a awesome place to see, to shoot, to talk. I think maybe 2009 was my last visit. Pre Dome. Go if at all possible.
