Warner & Swasey turret lathes

Detriot and Grand Rapids MI, craigslist has three W&S turret lathes for sale. Are turret lathes a good choice for barrel work?

They posted pictures on craigslist,Detroit & Grand Rapids) they're no where near the size you posted. They look SOLID though. Prices were/are very reasonable, one was recently rebuilt. $1500 to $2800.

W&S lathes were made very well and can take all abuses and then some. The 6 or 8 position turrets are basically geared for a production run and will do it all in those respective operations. They are a stout lathe and can double for a hand screw machine very well if one is needed. The turrets can be replaced and used as a single operational lathe and thus go back and forth whether you're making one part or 1000+. The turrets posits are generally geared up for a roughing and finishing operation on the same part without unchucking the workpiece. This holds concentricity and runout to the finest without even trying. LOL
