Wanting to do 284 Win in 700 long action.

Wanted some input from anybody who has done it in a 700 long action using 162's or 180's. How about using an Accuracy International detachable magazine? I'd prefer to install a PT&G bottom metal and use the AICS DM for this project, but need to know that the cartridge will feed reliably before I get started. If that's not advisable, then does it feed and extract reliably enough from out of the factory 700 BDL LA with hinge floor plate?

I did my 1st 284 on a LA 700 in a McM A5 with BDL BM, then several years later, sent the stock back to McM to have them run their B-O M5 DBM inlet program in it. At that time, PTG hadn't started selling their Stealth DBM yet, but I'm sure that'd work just as well. I run 180 VLDs & Hybrids through AI 300WM mags in mine, and it feeds flawlessly. The AICS mags are much too short for the 284, but with its .500" case head, it fits & runs very well in the 300 WM AI or Accurate Mag magazines.

Thanks, that's what I need to know. I was also alternately mentioning the Accuracy International AI magazine with the AICS magazine. After reading your input, I now understand that "AICS" refers to their 308 length magazine.......and it is really the AI magazine for the 300Win mag that I'm needing.

My 284 is a Remington 700 LA with Badger BM using AI 300 WM mags. The chamber has .220" freebore and I shoot the 180 Hybrids. The mag fits 6 rounds and feeds perfectly. I don't know my COAL off the top of my head but I could jam the lands and still have room in the magazine.

Man, that sounds like a ton of freebore to me. .220 isn't all that far from 1/4" !!

I had my reamer cut from a dummy round with the base of the 180 hybrid shank set 0.050" above the shoulder/neck jct. I asked that the reamer be made for that dummy touching the lands. With a 0.030" jump it shoots increasingly accurate. That may seem like a lot of freebore but those 180s are loooong puppies.

Oh, I misunderstood you and thought that .220" was the amount of bullet jump you had before the ogive contacted the lands. I can relate with the .030 jump you are reporting, as I've just about finished developing loads for my 6.5CM, and a .036" jump just happens to be what works best in it too. Thanks for the input.
