wanting a new rifle

I'm thinking of buying a .308 boltgun mainly for target, possibly hunting. My gun funds are limited, so I'm considering a Savage 12fv in .308 with the accu trigger. Anybody have any experience with this rifle?

I bought my wife a Savage mod.12bvss in .243 and I love it.The 1-9.25 twist barrel will shoot five Hornady 105gr A-Max bullets into less than 1/4" moa all day long at 100 yds.,so long as you don't heat up the barrel to much. The only thing I did to it was to glass bed the recoil lug area and set the trigger as light as I could. My trigger would only get down to 2 1/4 lbs. though.Like many of the others are saying,I'm afraid I'll only get 1-2000 rounds through it before I start loosing accuracy.I bought myself a custom 700 Rem. in .223 which my wife now shoots.Best rifle in my arsenal! I wish now I had gotten the Savage in .308 Win.,and if Savage ever barrels their mod. 12 long range precision varmint-er in .308 I'll be a gittin me one.
I bought myself a mod. 700 Rem. in 308 and it was lucky to shoot a 3" group at 100 yds.regardless of what bullet went down the tube. That rifle is now re barreled in .308 with a Hart ss heavy varmint barrel. I just wish I had gotten the Savage .308 to begin with.

Yat,

Take heart. In 2-3 months Savage will start selling bare stainless Accutrigger actions, including the 8 oz. "precision" Accutrigger. Get a PacNor SuperMatch pre-fit barrel and you're good to go. You should be able to drop it right in your existing BVSS stock.
