Wanting 308 Load Data for LW sportier rifles

I am looking for some help on a sportier rifle that I picked up. The rifle weight is 6.5lbs the barrel is 24 inches and the twist is 1-10 four groove. I am trying 168 Berger hunting classics with Nosler Custom brass and Varget powder. The closest I can get the bullets to the land and still fit in the magazine is 80 thou off the lands. The chamber is sammi. The best groups at 100 yards so far are 1.25" 3 shot and 5.

Any advice would be very welcomed.

Brian

43.0 gr of Varget and start working up in 0.3 gr increments until you find the sweet spot. I run 44.2 gr of Varget in mine with the 168s using Lapua brass but that is a warm load. My buddy build a 308W that was lights out with the 168 Hunting and a IMR4064. Good luck, Tim

I had good groups with Sierras. They didn't mind jumping and gave me 3/4 or less groups. COL at 2.8 for a "plinker load". I just tried some Hornady 168 BTHP, and got the same results. I MUST say that I was loading lite. 168s with 37.3 Viht 135, 37.8 with IMR 4895...... 2200-2300 fps loads, nothing hot or even warm, but they go where I want them. 40 grains 4064 also did well. Shooting a 5r Remmy stock gun, out of the box. I loaded all the way past max to hard bolt lift and tried pushed into the lands but it got finicky.Went to 44.7, with Varget.I went through my Varget chasing the hot loads. Had to switch for the shortage. Backed down to the lite node and now my gun doesn't show a .3 grain difference in load on impact point or group size. 37.5-38.1 IMR-4895 gave me the same grouping. Easier on brass, too. Granted, it's not a long range load, but it's accurate to 200. Using 1x fired LC brass, any year. I have other guns I get "finicky" with. This one's a fun gun. Try some lite loads. Josh.

You want some fun try the hornady 110 vmax and they scream with low felt recoil.

Load them bergers close or at2.850. Work from 42gr varget up to max in 1/2gr. You'll get something you can live with. Not everything has to be in the lands. I usually have two or three sets with bergers that shoot good. In lands, 50-80 thou jump and around factory oal
