wanna start 1000yd br

Ok, guys I have been shooting all my life but just got into real precision shooting and reloading probably 6 months ago. So my question is what would be the next step I should do?

My equipment is:
Savage LRPV in 6mmbr with a 8 twist Benchmark
Burris Black Diamond 8-32x
Caldwell Rock BR with a Caldwell rear bag
I have been using Forster Ultra FL and Micro Seater die
Gonna replace the Caldwell rear bag with a Minigator

Currently I'm averaging .4s and am using Lapua brass, Wolf SRMs, 107 SMKs, with Varget.

I think my next steps in order are:
SSS time and true with the Evolution trigger
Stockade Long Range Bench stock
Nightforce BR 12-42x or a 8-32x(Can't decide)
I'm liking the SEB coaxle rest

I'm also fairly young and on a kinda tight budget. Thanks for looking and the comments.

So if you guys could kinda point me in the right direction as which way to go

Welcome Guy,

Plan on getting hooked HARD!!!

Anyways, best advise I can give you is to get hooked up with someone who is playing that game.

And Your in luck, drive up to Byers next weekend an attend a 1K match.

Go watch, learn, ask questions... Got to the match and go right up to the desk, introduce yourself and say, I am here to learn and help out...

They will help you and take you under their wing. Dont be suprized if someone says, here shoot my gun..

That is the best advise. Get away from the computer and go to the matches and get involved....

Good Luck

Rod

Next step...Get your keester to a match!!! And..HAVE FUN!!!

You say you are "averaging in the .4's" At how far?

Ditto to the other posts. Get to matches ASAP. Dont wait until you spend your money, go now and make sure you still feel its money well spent. I know you mention a limited budget, but see what others are using and doing at matches before you invest your $$$.

I was in your shoes at the beginning of last year, so I have a lot to learn yet. However I can give you some"newbie" advice...

1) have fun!

2) Go to a match and learn what you're doing wrong! (You'd be surprised at what you're doing right, and what you're doing wrong).

3) Once you think you have it figured out, go to five more matches, and you'll learn that your initial thoughts may be wrong, or they may be right... you'll have to figure that out.

4) Have fun!

The moral of the story... don't spend ANY money or time on new equipment until your 100% sure that it's needed. Only experience will tell you that. Don't base any decisions on your experience from one match... go to several matches before you dive in.

I know people say this all of the time, but I tried to beat the system, and it didn't work. Now I'm spending twice what i should have, if I had listened to everyone on here...

One more time, go to a match and shootwhat you have. See what the guys are shooting.

I'm shooting .4s at 100 and I'm not sure if my scope has enough elevation to get to 1k. And I am planning the trip Sunday morning, any ideas what time I should get there?

If you get there by 8:00 you will be fine but most of the BSing goes on between 7:00 and 8:00.
If you have a 20 minute base you will be fine If not and your scope has mil dots I believe you will be ok also.

If you don't have a 20 minute base though that is one thing you should upgrade before getting real serious about it, you can make everything else you have right now work.

James

Ok, well I don't have a 20min base so ill get one ordered and join in on the next one but I'm still gonna come up and watch.

Hoier,
You have been given excellent advice from all but the best advice was from Walt, Don't waste your $ buying stuff, because chances are you won't use any of it once you really figure it all out. I don't believe your scope has enough elevation without trying it, I don't shoot a 6br anymore but I imagine you will need about thirty minutes, so if it zeroed right now see how far it will go, if it has the mil dots, as already stated you will probably be fine, give it a go, if not someone will probably let you try there setup, as stated ask lots of questions and let us know what you think after this weekends match, have fun and good luck ;)

Good Advice and heres a tip that works for me when I am trying to meet people, works great on middle aged guys.... You can make instant friends for life if you show up early (0700) and bring a big box of longjohns, glazed donuts, bearclaws, fritters, etc... Hey, it really works. They may not remember your name later on in the day or next match, but they will remember the face as the guy who bought donuts last time....

"Hey, Donut Guy! Want to shoot my rifle?" Can you hear it already!!!!?

It'll be great to meet all you also. And I will try to get up early enough to get doughnuts!

I'll be at Byers this weekend also. I use a SEB rest, so you can tinker with it if you would like.

Dave

Dammit, I like donuts too!! ;D

Trouble is I'll be at Harris.......have to bring my own I guess......

Hey James,

If lessons only cost a few donuts, I'm all over it........ ;D

I'll just snag a couple extras at the motel........stale at it's finest.....
