Walther-Lothar barrels for CZ 22 rifles,... any good?

Bought one for a CZ 457. Shoots very well with a wide variety of different ammunitions'. It is definitely superior to the other drop in barrel I bought and at a lower cost.

Definitely worth buying. Walther rimfire barrels are the same stainless as every other manufacturer. And they're very well made. But as with any .22lr, how well the gun shoots will depend on the chamber.

My only experience with them is my Kidd barrel on my 10/22, it's made by Walther. It's a great barrel, im very satisfied with it. All mid-range and up ammo is .75 or better at 50 yds - keep in mind this is a semi. With midas+ it's a.5 at 50yds and it's a stock 10/22 besides the barrel. I'd say try the barrel. Here's some 100yd groups.

Do not report how much better accuracy the LW achieves vs the stock CZ barrel or I will not be able to resist purchasing one.

Guy in our club has one that has never been fired for sale. It's 20.5 inches long, stainless and will fit my new 457. Curious if it's a worthwhile purchase?
What is your factory barrel doing for you? Some of the factory stock barrels are extremely good.... Unfortunately mine - a standard 20.6" Varmint - was not one of them. I don't remember the exact numbers when I tested but is was around 3 of the 15 or so target ammunitions I shot with the factory barrel were inside .5 at 50. With the LW barrel (a 20.5 BULL) the same ammo (12 or so of ~15) were inside .5 with several .2s and more .3-.4s. Mostly it was exactly as you would expect. The high grade ammo shooting the tightest groups. My LW barrel does shoot SK/Lapua better than it shoots Eley.

YMMV

Okay, this is a Walther .22lr barrel for a Ruger 10/22....has a 22lr bore. Threaded and chambered for .22Mag with my 22M tight reamer, then fitted to a fairly early 77/22M which he also threaded. Another guy did the trigger, it's 12oz...that helps. 22Mag.jpeg22Mag groups.jpegThis was back in '96. Here's the gun and here's how it shoots, many people would probably be happy if their .22lrs shot like that. Target was shot either off the hood or tailgate of the truck, I don't remember. It's been very effective on literally thousands of groundsqirrels-prairie dogs-rockchucks-etc with Win. 40 JHP. During the season I don't leave home without it. I wouldn't hesitate to have one of these barrels on a .22. But I would want to know who did the work and what kind of chamber was used.

While it is a good barrel I feel it could shoot better, my reference... it shoots the same as my Savage B22. This make my more expensive CZ only better than my Savage in trigger only.

Got the barrel last night, good looking piece. It has a really weird recessed crown? It is recessed as deep as the threads for the muzzle end, dont think I ever seen one recessed that deep before. Will get it on and tested and offer a range report back here....

When threads are machined it opens the bore of the barrel slightly. " unless they barrel is made of hammer forged steel" This is not a good thing for .22lr lead bullets as once they form small due to the properties of lead they stay that shape and do not expand.. So they back bore the crown in order to keep the barrel tight at the muzzle.

Not so much a issue when shooting copper jacketed bullets as the copper jacket can expand and contract slightly while traveling through the muzzle.
