vortex viper scopes

For a low level scope they are not bad. I have two Vortex Viper 6.5x20x50 on my varmint rifles. They track well. Glass on a scale of 1 to 10 IMO would be a 5

I own the 2.5-10 and the 6.5-20. In my opinion, they are a better value compared to a Leupold at the same price. I like Vortex a lot. A good company with an outstanding warranty.

A gent that I shoot with showed up at range last week with a Vortex Viper he just bought. It was a discontinued model Viper that I recall was a 6-24 power and was on clearance for about $150 less.

His Viper's glass was fuzzy at 24 power. Dial it back to around 21 or 22X and it then cleared up.

I picked up a 6-20 30MM with BDC crosshiar new/old stock close out from Camera land for $300. The X-hair is a little thin, and dots small, but it trackes very well, and it reminds me of a Leupold VX2 in brightness, a Weaver Grandslam in exterior finish and it is the best 300 dollar scope I ever bought.

I have two of them. A 6.5-20x50 and a 4-16x44. Both scopes have comparable glass to the Leupold VX2 line. When the power is maxed out, both scopes loose a little brightness, but they both have repeatable adjustments and hold zero. Plus, the warranty on them is second to none (Lifetime, no fault replacement).

Week or so ago was at range I'm a member and another retired gent I regularly shoot with is trying a Vortex viper scope he'd just received. Recall it was a discontinued model Viper purchased from SWFA, a 6-24 power one. Think he paid around $360 for it, had been selling for around $500. Scope is on a fairly new benchrest rifle build and he is shooting at a 100 yd target. His Vortex was burry/fuzzy when on 24X, nice and clear when he dialed it back to around 21-22X. He walks down to me to tell me this and I go to his bench to play with the scope. Not that I could try anything different, he'd probably had already tried. Chuckle, the gent is pretty much light years ahead of me when it comes to scopes, reloading, rifles and etc. After playing with his scope for a couple of minutes, just had confirmed his Vortex problem, being fuzzy at its highest power and that at a lower power, lens was quite clear.
