Vortex Viper just came in SIII Sightron comparison?

I just got a 6.5-20x50 Vortex Viper from Midway USA. Great company by the way there in Missouri. I really am impressed with the scope so far. I was looking at a Sightron SIII for my other rifle, so If I get it too, then I can do a side by side comparison. I was curious to see if there was any feedback on the Vortex Viper scopes here. The binos are very nice and get great reviews on the bird watching forums, so I am hoping that the scopes are up to the same standards. Midways price is 499 for this model and 479 for the 44 Obj. Seems like a lot of scope for the dollar so far. Any opinions or feedback will be appreciated. Thanks--Lee

a did a comparision this summer at sharp shooters supply while waiting on my new barrel to get put on. between my S3 and the vortex viper, both were on 20x and 3 of us were checking them out at different objects, the viper is nice but my sightron had it beat by a noticable difference, also a fixed power 24x leupold was the worst, then a bausch and lomb 6-24x was way better than the leupy, it was very hard to tell any difference between the bausch and vortex viper. but the sightron was noticabley better in all aspects even better looking through the mirage you could see much clearer with the S3 than any of the other scopes. dont get me wrong i would happily own every one of those scopes, because none of them were junk. but the S3 had em beat.

Well said, It says a lot about the Sightrons that you never hear many negatives. Most people seem to be very impressed with them. Thanks for the reply.

I have a new Viper 6.5-20x50 on the way. Will be here by end of the week. Going on a Savage 10 308 varmint/target setup. Little concerned about purchasing but a friend of mine has a set of Viper binos and they are very good glass. Hopefully this scope will be ok as well.

I have a Vortex Viper 6.5-20X 50mm and shot it in a club steel prairie dog match a couple months ago. I am very impressed. Made 40 adjustments and all were accurate and predictable with good return to zero. Very good glass for a $500 scope.

My 2 c worth..I've had my Sightron SIII 8-32x56 LRD for several months now. Never owned a scope like this. I've used several of my cousins Luppy's target from 20-35 power..some straight power some variable, the Luppys are nice, but at the bench, side by side I'm afraid the luppy can go back in the box. Never heard much about Sightrons before, called them on the phone and after the call,I got ahold of Chris at SWFA, he promised me a good price, I ordered and got the scope...Put it to the tests yourself, don't take my word for it. I do want to change the reticle to a finer one,but that is because I want to use it for 1000yd..it's fine for anything else. Good scope for the money.
