Vortex Viper HS LR or Burris Veracity?

Optics needed for a current prairie dog rifle build. Looking for a variable with 25X max power, FFP, ballistic subtentions and side focus. Oh, and not Leupold.

So far in my price range the Burris and Vortex seem to fill the bill. Surely there are higher quality options with higher prices but the budget is the budget.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!

The Vortex Viper HS LR is my favorite prairie dog scope. Hands down. If you are patient, I have seen it available from OpticsPlanet for some incredibly good pricing. No experience with the Burris.

I have the Vortex on a 338 Edge, no issues what so ever. Only thing is I wish it had 1/4 MOA elevation clicks for longer range adjustments, (just my preference), but the 1/2 does work for me. I like the zero stop for returning to zero.

I have both as well as a Sightron SIII on prairie dog rifles. I prefer the 4-20 X veracity by a little bit over the 6-24 x Sightron. The Vortex is a distant third however it is a very good scope.

Thanks for the replies. The Vortex’s .5 MOA elevation adjustment has me a little worried. Have never used such a course adjustment. How much of an issue is it for you?

.5 minute adjustment won't make much difference in the prairie dog towns. You'll probably just use your reticle most of the time out to 500 or 600. When you get out past that if you dial you will find a lot more variables to worry about than 1/4 or 1/2 minute clicks. Elevation, humidity, temperature, wind, angle up or down, exact distance reading will make a 1/4 minute insignificant.

Euro optics has the 6-24 PST Gen 1 on clearance right now that would probably get in your price range but have 1/4 moa clicks.

The one thing about a veracity is there isn't much of for wind holds on the main crosshair. But my veracity is clearer than my HSLRs

Euro Optics also has the Vortex Viper GenII pst 3-15x44 on closeout for $675. That may be the best deal out there if that’s enough magnification for you.

If you are going to be dialing any at all I would vote just about anything over the Vortex. It will let you down sooner or later.

I've always liked Burris glass, but have been let down by the mechanicals. Last one I tried maybe a decade ago was advertised as 45 MOA of adjustment. That was total. It was 25 vertical and 20 horizontal which sounds ok until your rifle eats 7 getting on target and you have 3 left in the one direction with a simple crosshair. Don't know what their new stuff is like.

I have the higher end vortex stuff (a GE and a Razor) and like them well enough. The glass is fine and the mechanicals all feel and work well. I can't speak to their lower end stuff from personal experience, but I like and recommend Vortex in general.

Burris will have slightly better glass as the Veracity uses the same glass as the XTR2. I have both items on sale right now though. I can be reached at 800-720-9625 ask for Sean

No thanks. Every post you’ve ever made is a solicitation. I only do business with companies who are site sponsors or at least contibute in some fashion.

Have two Veracity 4-20's and an HS LR. Only issue is the Vortex's reticle subtensions (.1 MOA?) are TOO SMALL for me below about 12x, its more of a paper puncher reticle for high magnification. Lost in any darker background, grass, dark dirt, can't see it. If you like to do shooting below 12x or so it may be an issue for you. Veracity reticle is about perfectly sized to me. The Burris glass looks good to my eyes.
