Vortex Fury HD 5000

I'm considering picking these up, I haven't had a chance to look through them yet.

I've read a few of the posts from other forum members and it seems like hunters have mostly positive things to say. I'd be using them primarily for shooting prairie dogs, varmint, and general glassing. Shots ranging from 20yard to 1000 yards. Most of the reviews online also seem positive but I always seem to find great feedback on this forum.

Anyone have anything negative or noteworthy to say?

Thanks,
RB

Shots ranging from 20yard to 1000 yards.
I've got a pair of the first generation ones (Fury HD LRF 300). I was less than a week into my month long hunt when the switch starting not activating the laser unless I pressed it multiple times. Not a good way to continue my hunt. I called Vortex. Their normal procedure is for you to send in your optics, they repair or replace them and send them back. Since that didn't work well for me, the rep went out of the way and found me a new pair in a local store. Arranged for me to trade mine in and get the new set. I'll never forget that gesture.

If you think you can range a prairie dog at 1000 yards, you are going to be disappointed. I go through a batter in about 3-4 days, but I range over 1,000 distances in a normal day of hunting. Most folks wouldn't range nearly as much as I do. For the money, I don't think they can be beat.

I wish I could turn down the display more. At the lowest (dimmest) setting, it is very bright. Button is hard to find with gloves on.

I like mine. The laser works great and I have no real complaints. The laser readings are much faster than my Leica HD-Bs, but the Leica does have a little better glass. You expect that for the difference in price of course. And the CS is outstanding!

I have carried mine for 2 years in all my PRS matches and everyday use. If you don’t want to carry a rangefinder plus “better” binos, these are a great compromise. The sig version appears to be virtually identical btw.

I have tested the laser systematically and yea, you can range the washington monument from the other side of the plaza on a clear day (literally) at many thousands of yards. But on a 2 moa steel target, 1500 is the practical limit yards and on an animal 1000 and in. A ground hog? Maybe the ground around him…. Thst all said, you’re unlikely to find a better laser for under the price of these either, so again really hard to complain.

I have had mine fog and the laser get bumped out of adjustment and gone back to vortex twice. Both times after significant falls however, tripod over in the wind and out the back of a moving truck. They took care of it in both cases and I’m very grateful.

I wish they made them in 12x50, but until they do i’ll keep using these.

I wasn't planning on getting the AB version. For a few hundred more, it must be some feature? Do you have the AB version?

No i have the original version. Been using it since they came out at matches and it works great for my needs. I have friends who have the AB version because they use the AB program for data. If doing that it would be worth the extra money but if just needing a LRF/Bino then go with the original.
