Vortex Crossfire II VS Diamondback

Both of these scopes seem to get pretty good reviews, one of which is a bit cheaper. I'm going to be shooting a realistic max range of 300-350 yards at paper and medium game so I've been looking at the 4-16x50 CrossFire and the 4-16x42 Diamondback https://tacticsfaq.com/vortex-crossfire-vs-diamondback/ . I like the idea of a 50mm Obj. since it stays gray and cloudy here for most of the hunting season and more light is always better right?

I'd like to hear from Crossfire and Diamondback owners about whether or not they thought the Crossfire was satisfactory or whether it really is necessary to go to the Diamondback. I'm not trying to shoot match with this gun, but accurate 1 MOA groups out to 350 yards is necessary for what I'm trying to accomplish.

Thanks.

Keep your eyes peeled on scopes n optics board.
You'll find Vipers used for the same money as the diamond back .
I have 2 Diamond backs and 2 vipers.
Diamond backs are on our gas guns and work great for my needs

I have a 6-24x50 Crossfire II on my air rifle and really like it. I got it on a Black Friday special for $250 which I couldn't pass up. The air gun is for indoor offhand practice in the off season & between range sessions. Because I'll be competimg in NRA High Power & Long Range with scopes, I wanted the air gun similarly equipped.

I have Leupold LRTs on the competition rifles, and the Crossfire II is not too far behind - a slight loss of resolution, clarity, and convenience (front- instead of side-focus). I also have a Burris XTR II 8-40x50 that will probably end up on a prone rifle; I don't need more than 20x for competition (prone w/sling), but the extra magnification should be useful for load development from the bench.

This weekend a friend asked me to check the zero on a new AR with a 3x9 Vortex Crossfire II on it. It was not on the paper, so I put up a 4x4 sheet of cardboard and after bore sighting, I found a bullet hole to work with. Adjustments were 1/4" per click. That scope then drove me nuts because it was not tracking anywhere near 1/4" - more like 1/2" or more. So I finally got him to turn the turrets while I sighted through the scope to move the cross hairs to the bullet hole. The cross hairs did not move in a consistent manner as he dialed. They slowed sometimes almost to a halt, then picked up speed again as he dialed at roughly a even pace. I didn't bother to count the clicks and measure the move on target to see how far it was off. Also if I moved me eye out of the alignment with the eye piece, it would turn completely gray as if I had fogged it with my breath.

Personally, I wouldn't use a Crossfire if you gave it to me. So far, two "economical" Vortex China made products have failed me. The other was a brand new Viper holographic that wouldn't turn on right out of the box. Another friend wants me to put a Crossfire 4x16x50 on his son's rifle and sight it in, so we'll see how that one goes.

The article you linked is talking about 4-12 powered crossfire II and diamond back.

There is no 4-16 diamondback. There is a 4-16 diamondback HP.. which I don't think they are making any more. There is a diamondback tactical with a FFP reticle.

I have looked through a couple of crossfires and own a 6-18 crossfire. I think for the price its fine. Does get a little dim at higher powers and in low light. I also had a 4-16 diamondback HP. turrets were the same as the crossfires. The glass was pretty good but the eyebox was very tight.. very uncomfortable at 16x. I ended up selling that one.

Have the Diamondback HP 4-16x42 on my Tikka T3X .260 REM. Me and buddies shoot steel almost every weekend out to 700 yards and it does the job just fine. No exposed turrets so i just remove top cap dial it up. It always returns right back to zero. Killed 2 antelope in Wyo last fall at 500 yds. IMO a damm fine scope for the money. No experience with the Crossfire.

I also have a crossfire with standered cross hairs , no batteries for me , on a .308 and one one a 10/22 , zero problems.... Both hold and return to zero like they should.. You can catch them on sale for hardly nothing , I put one on a 12.5 lbs heavy barrel .308 to just try a Vortex a year or two ago and it's just stayed on there , so far so good... I liked it , so when they went on sale again I put one on the 10/22 , once again so far so good... Both are just range toys for me... Both shoot as good as I can shoot them.... If it was on an important gun for hunting I might step up a notch or two or maybe even look at a higher end Leupold... I just haven't had to do anything to either scope , so they stay on there...

6x18 with AO on the .308
Plain old 3x9 on the 10/22

I've got a Crossfire II 6-18 X 44 AO with illuminated reticle that I got fairly cheap on sale at Academy. First time I took it night hunting under a full moon, came across a boar under the shade of a big Oak tree. In all the excitement I forgot to turn on the reticle illumination. Didn't matter though, I could see him and the reticle just fine. He tasted pretty good, too!

Don't know if I scored a better than average scope, but the glass is superb, much better than my Vortex HS 6-24 X 50 and the tracking adequate for 500 yard shooting. Just dial it up, pull the trigger and watch a 4 inch clay crumble.

I have a couple of Vipers and one Crossfire II. The first Crossfire was sent back twice before it was replaced. I’ve been very pleased with the replacement.

I had a crossfire scope that fell apart in my hands, never tracked or held zero. After three send backs I told them to keep it!
They sent me a full refund $$

If you get the opportunity to get a Vortex viper get it , I have the 6-24 gen1. Which has the 0 stop capability which is wonderful
When you are shooting long range. You dial any range then turn you turret clock wise till it stops and you are back to you original 0. And the tracking is great, I will not pay $2500-3000 for a Nightforce when I can shoot
A Vortex viper for $639.
