VLD Bullets Shooting

After hearing that the VLD and similar high BC bullets dont stabilize until past 100 yards, what is the best way of working up loads? I was always under the impression that if I can group them at 100 yards I should be able to group them at 300+ yards.

I don't have the problem with shooting VLD at 100 yards.
Here is a couple of examples of 308 Palma rifles shooting VLD at 100 yards. The biggest aid in shooting small groups with the VLD's is to make sure that each round is exactly in the lands the same amount. Load into the lands between 0.005" to 0.020", testing will determine the best seating depth for your barrel.

Bullet – Powder-------Land OAL --- Loaded OAL --- MV --- ES --- SD --- Group size
B-VLD—Varget ------ 2.878” ------- 2.890” -------- 2981 --- 22 --- 08 ---- 0.265”
B-VLD – H4895 ------- 2.893” ------- 2.910” ---------3062 --- 17 --- 06 ---- 0.291”

Berger 155 VLDs shot out of two different 308 Palma barrels

Catshooter, I think you are right. I have shot some mighty tight groups at 100 yds. with several different calibers using the VLD's. And normally if my groups are good at 100 yds., I can hit at 500 and 600 yds. An incident that comes to mind - A one hole group at 100 yds. with my 6 X 47 Shehane - 105 gr. Berger VLD. Same load gave me a .991 at 500 yds. Both groups were shot from the same batch of handloads with the same amount of brass prep. I know some guys find different results but This has been my experience with them. Thanks, Bill

Thanks for the input. I was worried that I was doing something wrong. I have 6mm Rem and was puzzled how they were saying that a the VLD bullets don't stabilize until 300+. I have gotten great performance from the Hornady 105gr AMAX at 100yrds and was looking to move out further, but was worried I wouldn't make it too well. Thanks again!
