Vitha N540

I was reading some old posts about Vitha 540 and most of the shooters regard this powder as being a barrel burner now I was wondering if this still is so while Vithavuori says that this powder has some protective coating. Is there actually proof that this powder burns up barrels faster?

I have heard those "rumors" also and haven't seen any real proof one way or the other. I use N-540 in my .17 Remington loads for my 30 gr. Starke bullets.

I have used it to, with the 105 Scenars and the 107 Sierra's but not so long, results were not bad but when I heard all the rumours I stopped. Now I don't own a bore scope so there really is no telling what it does to my barrel, I just find it very strange that Vitha says it doesn't hurt because of the extra coating. At the moment I got some Berger 105 VLD's coming up and I would like to give it a try with N540 to get a little more velocity and I was a bit curious if the old rumours were just rumours or a fact.
