Vit N150 carbon fouling

Has anyone found loading vit N150 for .308 heavies gives quite a lot of carbon fouling verses n140
Is the newer lots of N150 with added de-coppering agent cleaner burning with less carbon fouling than the older lots without de-coppering agent.

Tried to use it in a .308 TR rifle , with both Berger 185 Hybrids & OTM's , and 200 Hybrids , and had case sealing issues , no matter how high I pushed the charge , to reason anyway . Went to the N-530 , and no problems getting the cases to seal . Both were a little easier to clean up .

It's a fairly slow burning powder and it takes up a lot of case volume in the 308 with a big bullet.
I have used it a lot in 308 150-185 grs.
Can't really say i noticed a unnormal amount of fouling, but it tends to be a very consistent powder.
And i have yet to load my 308 (lapua brass) with N150 without a 10" drop tube to avoid overly compressed loads.

might we inquire as to the barrel length, charge weight and bullets?

And the N140 is also excellent in 308, it's faster burning, and will more easily give you a complete burn of the powder as that might be some of what is causing it.

N150 is the best powder of all time. How dare you speak ill of it! ;)

Seriously though, no. I don't find it to be dirty, and I've never had an FTR barrel that was all that sensitive to cleanliness (relative to other calibers).

What load are you using, and what velocities are you seeing?

Thanks for replies
Perhaps the vit powder with the added de-coppering Agent Burns cleaner with Less Carbon/copper fouling left in the barrel verses older Lots of vit powder which did not contain the agent pre 2017.

All my N150 is 2015 manufacture; burns as clean as anything else?

Not sure what to tell you. You're running the 215s fast enough for a good burn.

Is it creating an issue for you, or just annoying?

Currently loading with 2010 N150 and i am observing slightly more carbon in my ftr barrel than usual
Perhaps the newer powder lots do burn cleaner.

I am shooting N150 in my regular 6BR behind my own 103 bullet.

At 2925, it burns as clean as 133 does in my 6PPC. Accuracy is in the 1

I find it to be a little faster than most burn rate charts list it.

Accuracy is in the 1/4 minute of angle range.

The burn rate charts are misleading about N150. It is bulky, and it fills the case quickly, but grain for grain the loads with N150 in an FTR rifle are usually only a couple of tenths more than Varget.

Not sure if this helps any, but I have been running newer lot of N140 with pretty decent results. Seems to burn clean and the anti coppering thing seems to have some merit from what I have seen when cleaning. My load with a 20X and Varget was 44.2, with N140 it seems happy at 43.9. Haven't chronographed it so not sure if it is at the same 2630ish speed as Varget, but have shot some good matches so far since switching.

I use N140, N150, N160, N165, N540, N550,N560 and N140 and N150 is definitely the cleanest burning between them by a good margin. Strangely enough I find N540 to also burn very clean, N550 and N560 is a pig in a barrel but they shoot so consistently where I use them ill take the time to clean the barrels before switching to something else

Many thanks for replies
I will be loading newer lots of N150 with the added de coppering agent to try and see if it burns same or cleaner than the older powder which doesnt contain de coppering agent will post up findings.

Has anybody found the ‘ new ‘ viht formula is slower than the ‘ old ‘

load was worked up again with both calibres but charge for charge were down a lot on velocity.

Which manuf year and Lot numbers of the powder you notice giving lower velocities also how many fps slower is newer verses older powder lot.
