Virgin brass sorting ?

I read on here somewhere or maybe in one of the threads, the proper way to sort virgin brass for best results prior to any neck turning etc.... Do you sort by runout on virgin brass or variance in neck thickness prior to turning?

Any help would be appreciated. In mean time I will keep looking back to try and find it. Was said something about this as good as the brass will ever be so sort while brand new to get your match lot of brass sorted

maybe this is what you read....

#3 and #4 are more of what I had thought I had read. But this wasn't the posts I had seen. This was good info to save for reference

I'm trying to determine how I want to sort my virgin brass to get the best possible prior to touching the brass

I assume you mean best results in terms of shooting using virgin brass. I sort it by weight or if you are anal and don't believe weight reflects volume by volume. ;D

You know that already Andrew... At least in terms of weight but man I have been impressed by their concentricity after 1x firing...

I have the old style Sinclair Neck sorting tool but can't get it set up correctly. Hoping my friend can help me tom get it working correctly. Want to sort by neck variation before doing anything else to the cases

When I do sort brass - I sort AFTER ncecks are turned. My logic is that is where the difference (or part of it) in weight came from. AFTER necks are turned - the weight difference will be targeted elsewhere.

Then maybe we shouldnt sort until we neck turn, pocket uniform, flashole deburr and trim.Right.

My thought was to sort by neck variation, trim to minimum length that this lot # has, chamfer/deburr, turn necks, flash hole deburr, uniform pockets, then weight sort. Then maybe I will have a lot of 60 or more match pieces of brass. And any way out there cases(if any) will be for working up loads.

I will keep my old lot of brass(7x fired) to foul the barrel with.

Thought here is to only shoot my match brass in matches and not for both working up loads and match. This is what I did with old lot. Shot same brass in competition that I did working up different loads. Thought being those brass had all been shot with different loads and pressures and different powder etc..... for 7x. Thinking the new way I mentioned above will keep everything much more consistent
