Now that it's sold I have a question about scale....
What's the flat wire looking springy thing sticking off of left side of unit?

I believe it is to be able to center the pointer if you choose to before releasing it to weigh the load in the pan......But I MAY have that wrong.

Rick

I have the same scale. When you place the pan on the scale to weigh something you get wide swings of the beam. You push that piece of flat steel in where it encounters the point of the swinging beam and it makes it settle faster.

you are correct.
Herter's didn't make any of there stuff I know of, there is one for sale on e-bay that is a Krupp, not sure if that is a house brand or the actual maker.
If possible, ether the seller or buyer could send me a scan of the instructions? I have one of these with the box, which is pretty cool also, to complete mine.
thanks.

I'm glad you picked this up, I looked at it half dozen times, the weight, footprint, 4 leveling screws, stamped beam and oil dampened almost got me. Lol
Let me know how it operates for you
Brett
I sure will. I have 2 Parker tuned beams here that I use all the time, I will stack it up against those....

It’s an interesting idea. The barrier to rotation however is greater for the wire through the hole than it us for the knife edge on the agate V-block.

The wire goes into a very small notch at each end of the tube, which is only the top half of a tube at each end. it is a full round tube only in the middle. Depending on how tight the wire is, which is controlled by a spring, it might not touch much in the middle.
It was posted over on cast bullets that its some kind of dental wire.
