'vintage' Federal SR primers = SPM?

Hi everyone,

As you can see the words on the box are "small rifle and high vel. pistol primers"

Does this mean they are small pistol magnum primers? Does high velocity pistol mean magnum pistol? Am I missing something here?

I looked around and did not find this exact particular topic. only people debating the proper applications and interchangeability of SRP and SPP/ SPMP

I'm told they're from the 1970s.

Thanks for your expertise

That's what i was guessing but found it odd that the word magnum wasn't used. Are primers labeled as magnums a 'recent' development?

The Fed small pistol mag primer is #'ed 200. The Fed small rifle primer designation is 205 and 205M (match). I believe.

I've been using these in my 454 super redhawk since 2001 bought them in the 1980s never pierced a primer. loads for 454 run 63,000 psi my load of 31 gr. ww296 300gr. xtp mag. 1600 fps that's for sure ( high velocity pistol)
