VihtaVuori N140 with 155's

Hi,

I understand this is a popular powder for F/TR & Palma shooters with their 155's. Looking at the VV reloading guide, max load for Sierra 155 is 44.2gr and 43.4gr for the Scenar with respective velocities (albeit from a 24") of 2,712 and 2,648 respectively.

In order to get these out to 1k I'm presuming these are being pushed by many well beyond max loads so I'm curious to know if that's the case and what load are you guys using and just how compressed a load that is ? Am I wrong in thinking VV data is very conservative ??

Just trying to get a sense as to where you guys are finding optimal performance and also pressure signs. Appreciate all rifles/brass are different and you worked up carefully.

Thanks

Thanks

I've used N140 for Palma but prefer N150 if available. The former can be a tad too peaky at temps common to the locations I shoot during a season, particularly because - as you already understand - even in 30" barrels the loads used are near the edge. As an aside I've never had to load compressed with either powder to reach the 2975 fps considered minimum for 155's @ 1,000 yards.

Out of shorter barrels if you expect to keep 'em stable with N140 your brass isn't going to last too long....

Both are good powders, burn clean & consistent between batches. Expect to pay top $$ once you locate any at vendors you buy from.
