Vihtavuori and 270win

I'm wanting to play with a new load for my 270 and heard some good things on their powders. Does anyone have any 1st hand experience with these in a plain jane 270win or a cartridge that may be similar? I'm currently shooting 130gr accubonds with 59gr of H4831SC at 2900fps. 22" barrel.
Thanks guys,

Chris

VV 165 And 150 NBTs work well in my Win 70 sporter I started with a mid level load and ended up @ 57.3 with Fed 210s seated .01 short of magazine max.

Speed wise it's 2817 fps, group wise 3/4"@ 200, 3 1/2" @400. It's a solid hunting load (5 shot groups).

That sounds a lot better than what I'm currently using. I'll have to look into that one when it warms up here a bit.
Thanks for the info, I appreciate it.

Chris

I suppose I should try the VV 165 as well, as it closely resembles the burn rate of RL-22.
I found a 1/2" group with my Ruger #1 in .270 with 60.2g of RL-22, other modifications were made to help this load, such as trigger, hammer and spring upgrades.
I haven't chronied the load yet, but a rough book estimate would be 3100fps. I forgot to mention that I tried several 130g bullets and nothing did as well as the 130g Hornady GMX. Don't know if its the gilded metal or what, but I haven't had too much deviation from the 1/2" group.
I just may work up some Viht loads to see it's potential, good idea!

kc, you just discovered my reason behind asking the question! I noticed it was near RL-22 and thought I might be able to make something near it with a powder that was known to be more consistent lot to lot. Seems everyone talks about how great RL-22 is for a 270, and then turn around and say the lot to lot variance is horrible. I've also heard velocity swings greatly with temp too. I can't confirm either of those though since I've never tried it.

That particular load is less than VV book max (book max is 57.7grs.)also. I went higher but this is the best accuracey for this combo in this rifle.

Chris, let's see if the theory holds true. I'll go ahead and load some up and when I get a chance to shoot again (hopefully this weekend) I'll come back and let you know.
I tried this same experiment with the .300 WinMag, with both powders mentioned, but to no avail. But that dang rifle doesn't shoot with anything anyhow, so, I'm still open to the theory.
I don't get a chance to shoot as much as I'd like, so the 1# of 22 is almost nearly exhausted. When the new pound is opened up, I'll check on the lot to lot consistency as well.
have a good one!

Sounds like a good plan to me. I'll be looking forward to when you report back. It's one thing to hear what everyone else has heard, but another to actually hear from someone who's been there and done it.
Please keep me posted to what you find out.
