Has anyone tried VV N120 as a replacement for H4198? It seems very close on the burn rate chart

Yes, to the point I dont use 4198 now. Smokeless MZ and big bire straight wall stuff. You might lose a bit of velocity with it. The last cpl reloading component crisis fiascos have put me firmly in VV camp and I likely wont be going back.

N120 is not as close as you think, a much faster powder although it will work.
The closest powder to H4198 is N130.

N-120, while it will work with a 112/118 bullet, it is a tad fast.
I have a feeling that you could go from shooting really phenomenal scores to having pressure problems at the bat of an eye.

I think Jim Moore shoots it with his 10 ogive 103.

PS.
I just talked to Jim Moore, and he shoots 32.4 grns of N-120 behind his 102 grn bullet and 31.0 behind his 112.
The velocity of the 102 is around 3130 fps, and 3130 with the 112.

Jim won our first Registered Match at Tomball last Sunday.

It's nice in the 222 with 40-56g pills. All I use these days.
